Allison is correct. It does not have an under layer and/or any kind of insulation. It is just a shell. I bought the jacket but I haven't worn it yet because I'm looking for reviews. I don't want to spend that much money without knowing it is a top-notch quality. I'm also holding on to an REI Event Jacket (their version of Gore-tex) that I bought for $130 less than the North Face. How do they compare? Anyone know the answer to this one?

I just ordered it so I don't have it in front of me to know for sure. But its a technical shell meant for aerobic activities in cold/bad weather so it most likely does not have any kind of insulating layer. Its main function is to be wind and water proof but also breathable when you sweat.
