Emancipate yourself from lift lines and well-traveled mountain slopes. Pull on The North Face Men’s Liberation Pants, and seek out untracked snow far from the madding crowds. These Gore-Tex Performance Shell pants protect you from the elements, no matter how much snow might be dumping on you during your skin up. An adjustable waist on these gusseted pants fits over your layers, and integrated gaiters stop your boots from filling with snow every time you take a digger in the freshies.

Bottom Line: Break free.

Awesome ski pant

By:

The perfect ski shell pant. These are great for keeping me dry and fit is not baggy at all with good access pockets. Would recommend to anyone who wants a traditional fit warm/waterproof pant for skiing.

How durable are these going to be when scrambling over mountains?

How durable are these going to be when scrambling over mountains?

I'm looking for mountaineering pants for under $225. Gore-tex is a major plus but I'm worried about blowing out the rear when scooting down rock.

Hey Logan- This probably wouldn't be my first recommendation to you primarily because this is more of a ski pant than a climbing/backcountry pant. Keeping pretty close to your budget at $249 is The North Face Mountain Pant- also Gore, this pant has more rugged material, and Kevlar reinforcement in the kick patches. The other benefit with The Mountain Pant is full side zip for ventilation, and removable suspenders.
Hope this helps-

Nice Fit- I Like Them

By:
January 7, 2010

I wanted pants for skiing that were not baggy- these worked out great. They're not tight- just lacking that extra ton of material common on many other pairs. They are warm enough with a good base layer, but not "fluffy" insulated. They feel more like the thickness of a shell. The only time I've been cold in is sitting on a metal chair lift in heavy snow (and it was just my butt). Otherwise, they have preformed very well in cold northeast conditions. I would highly recommend them if you are looking for a not-too-baggy pant. Appearance and fit was true to pictures and description. Durability is moderate- they are perfectly fine for skiing, but would not recommended for aggressive rock climbing (I think a more coarse material would hold up better). They keep the snow out of my boots too.

Is The North Face "standard" fit more loose or tight

Is The North Face "standard" fit more loose or tight around the thigh?

Thanks

I'd say they fit neutral in the thigh. That basically means that I've never thought about it until I saw your question.

The North Face pants I own (including ski pants) tend to be fairly roomy (but not baggy) in the thighs.

Excellent Bang for your Buck

By:
October 13, 2009

I bought these when I first moved to Anchorage back in late 2005. I didn't know much about gear then and saw these on a clearance rack. They were a great purchase. Even after four years, I still have them. I use them for ice climbing, skiing and winter backpacking. While I need to retreat the surface (because water doesn't bead up on it anymore), they still won't let water in. I have duct tape all over the bottom of these pants where my skis sliced them wiping out. They're still great. The slices only cut the outermost layer. These things haven't failed anywhere: no loose thread; no worn areas; no broken zippers. The integral gaiters are great for skiing, but I'd use real gaiters if your out winter camping or mountaineering in these. Again, awesome price-to-performance ratio.

Light and waterproof

By:

wore them opening day, snow guns still blasting. Coated with melting snow as temps. rose a bit, but stayed completely dry. Waist size was 36-38 which should fit but a bit snug. So buy on big side.

Agree w/ jre...pants pocket is a lousy place for a wallet in a fall...zippered inside coat pocket is were you keep a wallet.

I disagree- plenty of other places to put your wallet, there are three pockets.

There is no back pocket on these, and the leg vents are short zippers on the cuffs that probably are to make room for larger boots rather than venting. They look like nice pants, but lack those features. Everybody knows the most important ski accessory is your wallet, and there's no place to put it.
