The North Face Women's Leonidas Jacket always pushes through the crux no matter how hard it may seem. Its waterproof fabric, taped seams, and PU-coated zippers keep the wet from seeping in when it begins to rain, and the Leonidas's stretchy hood with laminated hood brim helps protect your face from the elements. If you begin to overheat on the climb or hike, simply unzip the underarm vents to dump excess heat. The Leonidas storm-secure cuffs stretch around your wrists to protect you from the weather without restricting your mobility when you scale sketchy terrain.
Bottom Line: Born from the Summit Series, which is known for strength, durability, and weather-proof performance.
Is this waterproof? What is the waterproof rating/technology equivalent? I am sooo tired of jackets that are merely water "resistant", that begin absorbing moisture over exposure time.
so, how does Hyvent compare to GoreTex Paclite material? according to PSI ratings, wouldn't a GoreTex Paclite constructed jacket stand up better than Hyvent (then i suppose the breathability is on the line, right?)? thanks so much for the information!
Hey there, this jacket uses TNF's 2.5L Hyvent fabric, it is fully waterproof and breathable...
From TNF's technology website: 60 PSI on the waterproofing Mullens test
SO basically this means that the fabric can handle 60 psi of water pressure before letting water in. The typical rainstorm generates about 2-3 psi, a heavy pack might generate 30-35 psi under the shoulder straps, etc. A rough calculation puts 60psi on the Mullens test at ~18k You won't be disappointed in its ability to keep you dry, what separates Hyvent from others, say eVent, is the breathability...
This jacket is beautiful. It is made of a material that's not as noisy as a lot of jackets, and quite soft. There is elastic around the bottom and inside the cuffs, as well as inside the hood in a "halo" which is pretty effective at holding it in place. It is long which is good outdoors in the rain and looks a bit stupid when in town. (But I am short and it sort of hugs my whole butt.) It's a toplayer jacket, supposed to be worn with layers under it, although the lining is not as nasty and plastic as old waterproof liner jackets were, it would still not feel great against bare skin. It's true to north face size - a small fits my 5'4" 32C with room for layers. It's a good all-around rainjacket and packs up small, very basic. Will see how it wears.

Is the jacket really adjustable? I have looked on various websites including TNF's and I have seen this jacket in three stores. The website descriptions all say the hood and cuffs are adjustable yet when I have looked at the jacket in stores I can't find any way of adjusting it.
No! The cuffs, hood, and hem are all pre-cinched to save weight. The elastic does make it snug on all of those points, but it's elastic, so it stretches. All told, I like the fit of it, being a tall skinny guy, because all of the cinch points are tight. Of course, I only know personally how the men's version fits!
