Slip into the Lauren Trench Coat from The North Face and strike a perfect balance between in-town style and high-performance winter wear. The Apex ClimateBlock fabric keeps you dry and warm even if the weather gets wet and windy, and the sleek lines offer a sophisticated look perfect for an evening stroll through downtown Vail or over to a midwinter dinner party.
I'm a gardener, and am looking for something that washes well, keeps me warm, dry, and doesn't cause me to sweat on the inside. Would this coat work if I were bending down all the time? It would be best if it were fitted, but not tight so I can wear non-bulky layers underneath. What do you think? Do I have to keep looking?
Jennie, I can't help with the fit but this coat should fill your needs for keeping you warm and dry. It should also breathe well enough for your intended purpose.
I just got this coat this week on sale, and I can't wait for winter to come back so I can wear it
The inside liner can be worn by itself and is quite warm. The outside can also be worn by itself as a rain jacket, which I did yesterday in the Pacific Northwest rain. It kept me warm and dry, it's slightly heavier than a basic rain jacket. And with the liner and coat together, it feels like you're wearing a really warm sleeping bag, super warm and comfy.
The coat is also very stylish without being trendy. Classy, clean cut and I got compliments on the raincoat part yesterday.
As for sizing, I think it runs a little small - I'm a size 10 on top and 8 on bottom, and have a large chest. I like to have room in winter coats to wear layers underneath - The size large fit me with room to wear a tank top, long sleeved shirt, and a sweatshirt or heavy sweater over it, which I think is perfect. If you're in between sizes, I'd go up.
I own this fab coat. Depending on the size you get, yes. The trench comes in 2 parts with an inner that can be worn on its own. The outer can also be worn alone as a rain and wind jacet in milder weather. I have also combined my outer with a heavier down coat underneath when weather and wind chill were below 30 degrees celcius. I love this coat.

This coat is GREAT. I wear a medium in North FAce products and this fits perfectly. It is three coats in one. The lining zips out and can be worn alone as well. Tailored and functional. Actually a smart looking rain coat! Had been in search of a warm waterproof coat for quite some time. This coat is perfect for the fall through the spring, casual and dress.
I have an aversion to big puffy coats, but I also live in New England, home of freezing weather and biting winds. I've been sporting a rather frumpy looking coat in the name of warmth. No longer! This jacket keeps me plenty warm while still being stylish; and I can wear it with both my business professional attire and weekend casual stuff.
It is pretty form fitting, but I don't feel restrained or constricted. And I love that with the removable liner I can make this a multi-season jacket (and it helped justify the expense).
The functionality of this coat is super. The quilted Primaloft inner lining looks great alone and for being so light, is amazingly warm. The liner adds a very warm layer when worn under/with the waterproof rain layer which blocks all the wind. The outer layer also looks great alone. Both the liner and outer portions are nicely fitted and feminine. The quality of the materials and workmanship are great. I only wish the pockets on the outside layer were not directly on the sides but a little more forward as they are on the liner. The zippers are solid. The liner pocket zippers could be a little firmer, but work well. I usually need two hands to close/open the liner zippers. The inside pocket in the liner portion has a solid zipper and the pocket is pretty deep and it's great to have the inside/security pocket. The hood is well-sized and covers well along with blocking the wind. I love this coat and wear it all the time since purchasing it in winter 2009/2010. The liner alone is good for 30-50 degree days. The outer portion alone, is good for 40-60 degree days. Both together, are good for below 30. The coat has kept me warm in single-digit windy New England weather. I have had no problems with the coat at all and it still doesn't show any wear. I've washed the liner in a front-load washer numerous times and it still looks new. I also love that the coat is made without any animal products and works just as well, if not better than any down or wool coat I've had in the past. The Primaloft liner is amazingly warm. I am very pleased with this coat.
its a great coat for rain day, but not warm enough for a cold winter in NYC where I live, so i have to switch to the metropolis one when the temp hit below 20 Fahrenheit..
Have worn this jacket with its liner and a mid-weight icebreaker sweater + thermal undershirt in minus 15 degree weather (4-5 fahrenheit)and I was fine!
Renee, The Lauren Trench is most definately windy-city worthy. This coat is constructed with TNF's Hyvent, so it is waterproof & windproof with a removable synthetic Primaloft liner for warmth. TNF does not do temperature ratings, but with something like a sweater underneath, this jacket will easily handle the cold, windy Chicago winters
I have two big labs and live in the city so I am constantly out and about walking them. I live on the east coast and this has been a particularly harsh winter ~ cold, windy, rainy, snow, etc. Not only does this jacket protect me from all of the elements, it is also quite stylish! I am 5'8.5" and usually wear a size 8 or 10 depending on the cut. I ordered this jacket in a large. I have more than enough room for a heavy sweater or sweatshirt underneath. Added bonus, I have received many compliments on this coat!
This coat is GREAT. I wear a medium in North FAce products and this fits perfectly. It is three coats in one. The lining zips out and can be worn alone more...
