Is this for rainy weather? I live in seattle, 10 months of rain...
If you're going to be in the rain a lot, I would go with a gore-tex jacket. This jacket is essentially "water-resistant," as opposed to gore-tex, which is water proof.
Nice for town, not the mountain
Bought this for my girlfriend to go skiing with. She returned it due to a weird fit, I think it ran a little small. Her other NF 3 in 1 fit great so I thought this would be safe but I was wrong (imagine that). This jacket also does not have a powder skirt.
My children love the rain and fleece jackets:)
unlike the other jackets
I am really impressed with the stripped down functionality of this jacket. It has fewer features than other jackets (no goggle wipers, fewer pockets, no powder skirt, no pants attachment points, etc.) but this means it is less bulky than any other ski jacket I looked at. It fits really well and is true to size (I've found). It's not too tight, the sleeves are nice and long even without the cuffs down, and, most importantly, it's not bulky. I love the sweater liner in lieu of a fleece or synthetic down liner. It is incredibly comfortable (with smooth lining in the sleeves!) and is attractive on it's own. The only thing I don't like is the slit in the back, but that's a minor complaint. It doesn't go up past the waist of my ski pants, so it's fine.
better than i expected
the few reviews i've read about this jacket said to order a size up because it ran small, but i find it to be true to size. i ordered a small (i am 5'3" and weigh 115lbs) and requested a return sticker just in case i'd have to get a medium. but the small fits with room to spare for a bulky sweatshirt underneath. the sleeves are a little long, which i really like and it's very slimming. the octopus blue color is darker than it looks online and i think it's actually much nicer. the inside layer is a well fitting sweater, (i thought it was a fleece) and i have another northface hoodie that is able to zip right into the shell making it kind of fun to mix it up. overall great jacket! =)
I love that it is quite stylish for a winter jacket, very nice cut and comfortable. It does run small, I"m usually a M and had to get a L because it was way small.
I've found it very practical to wear it without the fleece when it is cold but not too windy, the insulation it has is enough to keep you cozy with great range of motion.
I highly recommend it! Worked wonders for a Sweden winter, not an easy accomplishment.
