With plenty of storage capacity for long day hikes, The North Face Interval 30 Backpack stores your hydration bladder and pretty much everything else you’ll need along the trail besides a massage table. You’ll have to figure out some other way to bring that along. The Interval 30 Backpack’s airmesh pads on the hips and shoulders, plus a highly ventilated X-Vent Plus back panel, keep you comfortable on a warm day in the hills. A pocket in the shoulder harness holds your MP3 player (we wouldn’t want you to hike without your Best of Justin Timberlake playlist), and 30 liters of carrying capacity means you can have your lunch and rain jacket too.

Bottom Line: Sip your water, groove to your tunes, and trek to the top of everything within the weekend's reach.

Talk shop with all the gear freaks out there: ask 'em questions, upload/browse photos, and give your 2¢.

ALMOST the perfect bag.

I bought this bag last summer just before i went to China traveling for a month, the vented back was good however it was so humid out there i think i was going to sweat no matter what. I did get caught in some of China's monsoon weather and i was very pleased to say it kept my passport (which i slipped down the bottom of the hydration bladder pocket) nice and dry and also all my things in the main section too. the only down side, and in my opinion is quite a big one for travelers out there, the front zipper pocket is good for putting things like cameras etc in so you can grab them easily when you want to take a picture, however, it also means that pick pockets can also get in pretty quick (i didn't get anything stolen because i kept my valuables the main section and in the hydration bladder pocket.

having said all of that, this bag is extremely comfortable and due to the mesh back, you can put all awkward shaped things in you bag and it will keep it from digging into your back.
I would definitely recommend this bag to anyone, but just a warning to keep you valuables in the main compartment!

Great day pack

By:
September 16, 2009

I got this pack to replace my 3 year old kelty that had done well but was a bit on the small side fit wise and starting to cause some major lower lumbar pain. I tried this on at the store first to test the fit before I bought it here. It fits perfectly (I'm 5'11") and the trampoline back breaths and feels great. I tried it out on a 9 mile hike up Mt. Elbert and it fit all my rain gear, lunch, and water and I still had room for all the layers I shed on the hike. It also works great for my bike ride to work.

not really. there is the water supply compartment but it is not padded. Also, the backpack is kind of curved in the back because of the x-frame.

Write your question here...Can anybody identify some other packs with the same type of isolated mesh backing but with a larger hip/waist strap? One in the 25-30 litre range. Thanks.

Deuter Futura Zero. I have a 30 liter. It's awesome! Mesh isolated backing. Not sure about the hip/waist size.

The specs state this pack has "airmesh pads on the hips",

The specs state this pack has "airmesh pads on the hips", while the photo looks like a simple hip-belt with no padding. Is the waist belt padded at the hips, and does it stow away when not needed?

The airmesh is just on the shoulder straps. Waist belt is not padded and does not stow away.
