Zipper failure, came off, Denali

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Buyer beware! Why they put this garbage dinky zipper on a -40c bag is beyond me. It broke on Denali after 1 night and luckily my guide and I were able to Jerry rig it back otherwise my expedition was over as I'd be freezing every night for 3 weeks. Do not buy this -40c bag!

Hit or miss - First one great, second one terrible

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] A few weeks ago I wrote a review for my personal experience with the inferno sleeping bag, which was great. But my teammate had a terrible experience a few weeks later. One of the zippers in the sleeping bag detached which made the sleeping bag worthless. The consequences of having a sleeping bag without a zipper at 22,000 ft and -30F degrees are disastrous. This is unacceptable considering we paid more than $700 for a brand new sleeping bag. My partner who was using the sleeping bag, had a pulmonary edema and was evacuated in a helicopter after having a terrible night at freezing temperatures.

A serious bag for the serious outdoor contender.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is my second inferno. I have the previous -40 version that's red and I just couldn't pass up another one. Definitely one seriously warm bag. I removed sleeping pad cords on the bottom and that was easy to do. I still have my first NF sleeping bag too (Frostfire?) which I purchase in 1998 and it's still working just like new. I highly recommend the Inferno -40 for years / a lifetime of use. ᕙ(▀̿ĺ̯▀̿ ̿)ᕗ

Zipper could be much better.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I read the reviews about the zipper but told myself It wont be that bad. The zipper is pretty bad. They could have put a little more effort into their most expensive bag. Besides that, it's very comfy

I would but this sleeping bag again!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this sleeping bag for Aconcagua (22,840 ft / 6,961 m) and Chimborazo ( 20,550ft / 6,263 m) .  Pros: Fit - the regular size works perfectly for me, I am 175cm / 5'7 ft Zipper - half zipper is great so you are able to maintain your body temperature Storage sack - Storage sack inside is perfect to fit your phone or batteries from freezing.  Warmth -  It is extremely warm, which was an issue for Chimborazo which was approximately 16F/ -8C. I had to take my clothes off to stop sweating but perfect for Aconcagua -14F / -25C  Cons: Size - It is hard to pack inside a backpack, I had to attach it to my backpack as I couldn't fit inside. Bag - The bag to pack the sleeping bag is not user friendly and hard to pack with gloves on .

Quality, warmth, and worth the investment

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this bag primarily to use mountain climbing and winter camping. I live in Northern Minnesota and have been testing it out this month (December). The loft is impressive. Warm so far down to -5 degrees...having said that, it's been with a ground pad and outdoors (no tent) during the day and at night to listen to the owls. The draft collar is full and stops cold air from coming into the bag. The stuff sack is made well and the storage bag allows the bag to not be compressed when not in use. Yes, the zipper isn't as fluid as some but if you practice with it indoors, I've found it to be fine. I am extremely pleased with my purchase and am considering ordering the -20 bag as well. My goal in buying a quality bag like this is to pass it down to my daughter as she is just getting into winter camping and I anticipate it lasting for years.

Sent me a torn sleeping bag

Just got delivered the Inferno -40 F bag. They had sent me an obviously torn sleeping bag. Bad customer service sending a very expensive item without basic checks. I have to fly out this week and I don't know what to do. Very disappointed with my first experience with Backcountry.com

Got a torn sleeping bag

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Ordered from Backcountry and got a torn sleeping bag out of the box. The outer layer is very flimsy and doesnt look durable for rough use.

Very satisfied

I bought the Inferno sleeping bag for an upcoming trip (sleeping in an igloo) in February in Canada. The color of the sleeping bag looks vivid yellow (on the internet), but it is rather a dark gold color (burnt orange as stated in the description). The plus side is that stains, if any, will not be as evident on a dark color. The sleeping bag is lighter than I expected and amazingly comfortable. The zipper is small, and narrow compared to the zippers on my North Face One sleeping bag so you need to take your time when opening and closing the zipper. However, the zipper is dual-headed so when you lie down, you are able to open the zipper from your hip level and get one hand out to grab something (so you don't expose your upper body to the cold). The bag comes with a large fishnet bag for storage in your house and a white compression dry sac for transportation. I am very happy with my purchase.
