Impulse 1/4-Zip Hooded Top - Long-Sleeve - Women's

You're cruising the shops, and frankly, you're downright offended by the elevator music playing outside the stores. A fast, aggressive exit is in order. Luckily you happen to be wearing The North Face Impulse ¼-Zip Hoody. Carbonized bamboo in the fabric helps contain odor when you break into a sprint and start to sweat, and the thumb loops keep the sleeves down as you pump your arms on the long hill toward your house. The drop-tail hem in back and the elastic-edged hood extend warmth when you ditch town and head into the mountains.

Bottom Line: Out of town and into the hills.

Excellent running top!

By:
May 21, 2010

Great running top! Ran my first marathon in it, I was a little nervous about how hot it might get but I stayed a moderate temperature all morning (60 degrees). The ipod pocket is kinda on the back which was a little obnoxious because I'm music ADD and it's location made song changing hard. I'm that annoying line between a medium and a small, I ordered the small and it fit great! Plus the hood makes you feel like a ninja!

Great fit and function

By:
December 7, 2009

This is great for running, cycling, and hiking. The fit is flattering and true to size. It's a nice light weight layer but the hood is the best thing! I wore this up in the Rockies at about 12,000 ft and the hood zips up over your mouth! This was perfect for the cold wind over the mountains underneath my shell (although I looked a bit like an alien, lol).

Impulse zipped up

By:
December 7, 2009

I have a sweatshirt on over the Impulse 1/4 zip hooded top, so you can't see the nice fitted features of this top, but you can see how the hood zips to cover the face and keep it warm. Perfect for mountain tops and running in the windy city.

Cool!
i've been looking around for a TNF hood like that. i only remember a men's jacket that had a built-in balaclava.

Wonder what other hooded jackets (W's) there are of this kind. If you had not shown this photo i guess no one would have known this feature? TNF's site states a "Hood with elastic bound edge" but thats not too clear.

Two thumbs up for that.
Thanks.

Great shirt for running and activities

By:
May 4, 2010

I got this for a 12K and it was just what I needed. The material is lightweight, but warm enough if you are going to be active. I had a sports tank underneath it, and it was comfortable. It warmed up as I ran, and I did sweat through it, but it never got uncomfortable or irritating. The material definitely wicks moister, though I have to admit that I couldn't wait to get it in the wash after my run (really, is there really such a thing as an odor-eliminating material?)

The little back pocket fit my iPhone perfectly, and the front zip pocket on the left chest fit my ID, debit card and lip balm just fine. The hood didn't bother me at all when I ran, and I liked to have the option just in case it rains.

The fit is nice. If you like the shirt fitted and snug to your body, than go with your usual size. I'm 5'5", size 4/6 so I range between a small and medium, and the small fits me perfect. If it shrinks, it'll be too small. But it's fitted and looks cute on. A medium would have given me a little more room, but I don't know how that would have affected how much the stuff in the pockets would have flopped around. I'm happy with the small--I just won't throw it into the dryer.

Backcountry shipped it the day after I ordered it and I got 2-day shipping. It arrived as scheduled.

Good for errands, not for running

By:
March 9, 2010

As expected, this TNF top is high-quality, but it is not well-suited for running. It was too thin for temperatures below 30 degrees, when I needed a hood. And unfortunately, when it was over 30 and I didn't need the hood, it flopped ALL OVER THE PLACE and the top rode up so that the zipper was constantly rubbing my neck, which was epically irritating. As the other reviewer stated, it has a flattering fit (and is very comfortable when not running!), so I wear it when I'm taking care of errands and don't quite need a jacket!

While it is lightweight - It is great for layering. I usually wear it with one shirt under it. I own three of these hoodies. I run about 50 miles/week in the winter and live in New England. All three are found in the wash every week. I love the hood on this shirt - it zips up over my nose and has a mesh insert in front of the mouth, allowing you to breathe through it and not fog up your sunglasses. It has two great pockets, making it ideal for long runs. The sleeves have thumbholes, which is great when your hands get too warm for gloves. I love that when I get warm, I can unzip it. The hood allows me to go out without a hat, just a headband to keep my ears. It fits beautifully. I have searched for other companies who make a similar shirt, but none of them live up to this one. It is true that the hood flops around a bit when not on your head, but it usually only bothers me for a little while. I LOVE everything about this shirt

Fantastic top

By:

Love this top, lighter fabric then I had expected but prefect for x country running in spring weather and the chest pocket is the ideal place for an Ipod or cell phone. The hood did blow around a little on windy days, but on calm days I didn't even notice it.
