600-fill goose down encased in a nylon shell and a trapezoidal baffle system make The North Face Hotlum BX Sleeping Bag an ideal choice for 3-season use. The chambered hood is easy to adjust with the differentiated drawcords, which allows maximum heat retention. Sleeping pad retention cords keep your bag atop your mat, and a shoulder level zip pocket provides a place to keep a headlamp or other essentials close at hand.

Bottom Line: Geese get queasy when they see The North Face Hotlum BX Sleeping Bag.

Very nice 600 fill bag

This is a sweet, comfy, warm bag. For the money, you can't go wrong. It will never be as nice as an 800 or 900-fill bag but it costs half as much. It even compacts almost as small as my summer down bag (Lafuma). My GF has one now too so we can zip together. Very nice.

Thinking about getting this bag for a variety of seasons and it seems like a nice entry level down bag. However, how hot would this bag be during the summer? Is the heat issue as easy to address as opening the bag? Thanks for reading my rookie question.

15 deg bags tend to stay pretty warm, even a bit uncomfortable, during summer nights (more so in high humid areas). Opening the zipper helps, but as you cool off, you just want to cover back up until you get hot again. My recommendation is to purchase a bag liner. A liner will help keep the inside of your bag clean, they are nice for warm summer nights when the bag is too much, and they help you stay a bit warmer when your pushing the bag to its cold limit. Yes! One would have to be a left hand, the other a right hand zip.
