Built for a rough commute.

The Hot Shot is much more than a book bag. The North Face used all of its technical backcountry pack knowledge when it designed the Hot Shot. Comfortable FlexVent shoulder straps allow air through so your shoulders aren't covered in sweat when you get to class. The removable sternum strap is there when you need it, not when you don't, and mesh side pockets carry your water bottles so you can make it to class well-watered, even if class is a 15-mile hike.
  • Comfortable FlexVent injection-molded shoulder straps to ease the pain of heading to class
  • Comfortable, padded Airmesh back panel with zippered stash pocket promotes airflow to keep your back cool and your stash dry
  • Zippered, dedicated laptop compartment protects your machine
  • Padded phone pocket keeps the lines of communication safe
  • Bungee side water bottle pockets keep hydration close at hand
  • Removable sternum strap for added support

great bag for school, work, and travel.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

the hot shot is great druable day pack. ive used this for work which carries a 15 inch laptop very comfy. iv used this for school carries alot of textbooks and papers and it keeps them dry on rainy days. iv also use this as a carry on when traveling for small essentials. iv had my hot shot fpr about 8 yeas and still going strong. how ever i wouldnt use this for hiking because thre isnt any space for equipment let alone a sleeping bag. i would use this for town/city use not for any outdoor use.

Great Durability!

This pack is a great all around day pack to put through the wringer. This pack has 600D polyester in the front and sides and then 1680D ballistic nylon at the bottom and corners.

Too small

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have a pretty beefy 15.6" laptop; It barely fits. Takes some effort to squeeze it into the sleeve and after I zip it up the corners of my laptop poke into the top of the pack. Decently water resistant material is nice. Organizer pocket is a good size and has good divisions as well. Just too small for me.

Fan of the Big Shot

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I really do love this back pack! But I will say I like to go hard here and I prefer to spend just a bit more and go for the Big Shot! I would just rather have that extra space! Love this pack but out of both of them I personally prefer the Big Shot! Go big but if you don't need the extra space the Hot Shot will be perfect!

Good Travel Bag for Short Trips

Took this to Hong Kong and Macau and it held up pretty well. Granted this isn't necessarily a travel bag, but it did fit everything I stuffed in it and was comfortable to wear around the airports, ferries, mountains, and even Disneyland without becoming a burden. My lower back thanks you, North Face.

Upgraded to this pack from a Jansport

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've used a Jansport backpack since I was in elementary school and have loved the clean, simple look. I upgraded to this pack for two reasons:

1. Jansports don't do well in rain and it gets quite wet in Michigan during winter and spring.
2. Jansports get quite uncomfortable when you start to load heavy textbooks into it.

This bag not only looks good but has a dedicated laptop AND iPad compartment that can also be used to hold a water bladder. It fits my laptop along with a couple textbooks and folders no problem. Also, the secondary pocket has your standard organizational slots for pens, cell phones, etc. The pack is very water resistant and it has two external pockets on either side for water bottles. But the best part of the pack is how comfortable it is when you're wearing it. The difference between a 10 pound Jansport and a 10 pound Hot Shot blew me away. And when you're not busy commuting to school, throw a bladder and your camping gear into the bag for a bomber day pack. Versatile, comfortable and looks great.
