Here's what others have to say...

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

That's it, I've found my new hiking pants. I have only used these a few times but I already like them more than any of my other pants. I am 6'0 and have a terrible time finding pants that are the appropriate length. Well, the long fits great! It is the perfect length. Comfy, roomy for hiking and climbing, awesome color, breathable, stylish, perfect for different temps because of the convertible capri option, just all around great. I have other TNF pants that are a little too tight for climbing, so these will be my go-to once the winter clears. Can't wait to get them out more often! Just perfect.

Comfy pants

They do the job! Cool and comfortable, but kinda big! They are quite baggy, and kinda slim around the bottoms, but they make a girls butt look great. Theyre just huge in the thighs. Theyre great hiking pants, especially rolled up, and very light.

Don't fit well

These pants are really baggy. The legs are really bulky when they are rolled up as well. They fit well in the waist because they tie, but the legs are really wide. I'm not a huge fan of these, but they get the job done if you don't pay very much for them.

Does anyone know how these pants would fit on someone with larger hips?

I'm 5'4", 120 lbs with a 28" waist and 36" hips. Any suggestions on the right size for me?

Responded on

If I were you I'd go with an 6 or 8. I'm 5'4 @ 135 lbs and the 10 reg. fit me really well. Unrolled, they are a tad too long but still a good fit thought the rest of the pants.

Exactly what I was looking for

I needed a pair of pants for climbing and hiking, and these turned out to be the perfect fit. I layer them for warmth in the winter, and they are roomy enough to be comfortable even over a base layer (5'6", 120lbs, bought the Size 2). Chalk doesn't show up or stick to the fabric, so I don't have to walk around with obvious chalk all over myself.

These pants were perfect for a March trip to Zion National Park.

Go-To Outdoor Pant

My wife loves these pants. She wears them on basically all of our outdoor adventures. She loves how comfortable they are and that she can button-up the legs when she wants some capris. Breathable and durable.

Solid Pair of Pants

I knew what I was getting into when I ordered a Long sizing- yes, they're a bit too long, but still workable. I love the weight of these pants, and was surprised how roomy they are for still being flattering. The Dune Beige color sample above is nothing like what you'll get- I promise it's a really nice neutral. Look at other North Face pants for a better example of the color.

Anyone know if these pants are abrasive-resistant?

Responded on

My wife has worn these climbing, canyoneering, and hiking in Southern Utah and they have held up great. She would say they are fairly abrasion-resistant.

The perfect everyday pants

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Weather I'm out in the field doing research or at home lounging around, these pants are my "go-to" pants. they are lightweight and durable to withstand sawgrass and and swampy terrain. They are super comfortable to just simply wear around, and you wont find it surprising to fall asleep in them. Great pair of pants all around!

These pants aren't tight, which gives you freedom of motion and quick drying at the same time. Recommend!

Great pants

These pants put up with a lot. I like pants with legs that roll up (and stay rolled up) because with the zip-off pants I tend to loose the legs in my pack or not have the patience to take them on and off while on the trail. With these, I can easily roll them down when going through boulders or scratchy brush, and roll them up again when the terrain changes. They can be warm when the temp is high, but the fabric definitely protects your legs. Sometimes I wish I could get them to stay rolled up just a little higher than as designed - like just at or above the knee - so that they were cooler. That might be tough with the fabric bulk, however.

The fit is comfortable. They don't have much stretch, but can put up with movement that tests the seams. On my last week-long backpacking trip we ended up doing some rock climbing and scrambling down steep slopes with our packs on and the pants stood all the scraping and stretching with minimal wear. Lots of lakes on the trail, so I washed the pants a couple of times and they dried quickly. I took two pairs, but would have been fine with one, especially with how well these wash and fast they dry. The fig green was the best for not showing stains, and I actually liked the color - not an obnoxious green - but the dune cleaned up well. I also have these in a light gray, which is my favorite of the three colors I have.

My weight fluctuates, so I have these in two sizes - a 10 regular, which is currently a little tight, and also sometimes slightly short for my taste, and a 12 long. I am 5 feet 7 and 1/2 inches tall, about 160 pounds. The 12 is currently more comfortable, but not baggy, although my standard size in most pants is a 10. I am often between a regular and long length in pants. With these, I think the long is best, as my ankles are then covered when I sit - nice to have when it's buggy. I tend to carry my extra weight in my rear and thighs. These pants have a drawstring that helps the waist fit, without looking too bunched.

I agree completely! I wear these pants in our Dragon Boat. They are so comfortable, stretchy, and water resistant. Perfect!

Love 'em

Excellent pants, look cute rolled up or worn down. They're very comfy and lightweight, and they fit perfectly. I like that the waist sits a little below the navel, and the drawstring is handy if they are a little loose in the waist. All in all, a great product! I own them in 2 colors, and will probably buy more down the road a bit.

Love these pants!

Awesome pants! I have worn these hiking, around town and on multi-pitch, all-day climbs! They are light but tough. The pockets are roomy compared to most women's pants, but they don't stick out and make your hips look big.....I originally bought a size 6 (the size I wear in most pants) and ended up returning for a size 8. I usually have to order larger with anything NF. I'm 5'10", 145lbs......and the 8 still fits flattering but allows me room to high-step on routes.

Responded on

Do you think that these pants would suffice for a weeks worth of hiking/climbing?

Responded on

I do.....because I have worn the two pairs I have for a week in Mazama climbing single pitches and multi-pitches, plus the 30-40 minute approaches.....I also wear these when I'm working offshore on boats.

Liked them, didn't love them...

Very lightweight pant, even with the leg rolled up. Fit true to size, but I had to use the tie to cinch the waist a little bit as it fit large on me. Found that after a day of sweaty hiking, they did show moisture on the outside (they did wick, so they did their job) but I wasn't crazy about looking damp on my backside and stomach. They also stretched a little bit by the end of the hike. Overall, not a bad, lightweight pant, but not my favorite.

Short Size is Short!

I bought these pants and love them. But, the short size is short. I am 5'-3" 112lbs. The 2 short hit right a the ankle. Great with flip flops, not so great with hiking boots. I have thick thighs, and they do fit a little narrower at the thighs. But they are also stretchy and after wearing them for a bit, they were super comfy.

Not quite sure

I just received these today and at first was quite impressed. However, after wearing them around the house for a bit, I'm not quite sure. These definitely would not qualify as climbing pants--they are a little tight in the upper legs/crotch region, even though the waist is swimming on me. I normally wear a 6-8 (and recently bought a pair of NF shorts in 6 that first great!), and the six in these are quite large.around the waist. They are quite comfortable but would end up as a casual pant and not an outdoor pant. Not sure if I'm okay spending that much on a casual pant that isn't all that comfy. We'll see. Also, the pockets are in a weird place and stick out on the sides.
