Stay warm on the cold, windy mountaintop when you wear The North Face Women’s Helicity Windstopper Down Jacket. Gore Windstopper material shields your core in blustery conditions, and down insulation holds onto your body heat. With a performance fit, The North Face Helicity layers under a shell in really wet conditions.
Bottom Line: Only a brick wall blocks the wind better.
bought this jacket for my girlfriend, absolutely bombproof. skied twice in it this year in weather less than 20 degrees and she only had to wear a t-shirt underneath. tons of compliments as well.
This coat is SO warm! That is what I wanted, and it is perfect for keeping warm on an Idaho winter day. It isn't super puffy so that it feels bulky, but isn't completely flat either-a good medium fill. I actually ordered a small because usually on the tighter fitting North Face jackets (like the Redpoint) an XS has too short of sleeves. However, when I got the small, it felt like I was wearing a medium. The biggest thing to know if you are petite/slender person like me (5'6" and 105 lbs.) is that the shoulders have a lot of extra room in them and so it makes it feel way too bulky. I ended up sending the small back and got an XS, which fits perfect. I was worried about the white getting dirty easily, but the dirt doesn't really show up and I just washed it for the first time and it came out like brand new. The sleeve length still fits, and the shoulders aren't too bulky. It also has the wind protection so I think it is better than a few other down coats I have from North Face, but the material is still softer than your regular ski coat.
I read all the reviews from several sites on this coat, and compared with a few other coats. I am glad I chose this one-the hood fits fine unlike a few reviews I read about it. A great winter coat for someone who has a hard time staying warm, and comfortable enough that you could sleep in it! :)
What is the difference between the "snow-white" and the "white" color? It seems that the regular "white" is a really bright white - but is the "snow-white" more of a gray or cream?

this jacket was okay. it was really warm but too puffy for me. It was also a little short on me but i also have a really long torso. I did end up returning this jacket and purchasing a different north face jacket.
Love this coat! I've worn it on lift-access skiing in temps under 15 degrees and I was warm and comfortable. I've been cold in every other jacket I've owned. The fit is cute also.
Got my jacket about 2 months ago and have had time to test it in our wonderful winter weather recently (Iowa)... It's warm, has room underneath of it for layers, but it is SHORT (only hits at my hip) and I don't really get the 1/2 hood? The hood doesn't fully cover your head... maybe this is a feature I don't fully understand, but not ideal for trying to stay warm on winter treks. The shortness is what really gets me though, without a longer layer underneath you may experience icy blasts on your midriff. It's a bit bulky- but not too bad. I like it overall... just wish it was about 2-3 inches longer!
No complaints at all about this coat. I just moved to Iowa from Seattle and thought it might be overkill, but not at all. I also think it's a bit more flattering than most down jackets I've tried on.
How's the material quality of this jacket compared to The North Face Destiny Down Jacket, except the wind resistance difference? Are those two jackets made with the same "down"? Just there're so many down jackets out there with very big price range....always wondering about the quality of each "down" used...Besides, which one is longer - Destiny or this one? Thanks!
They've both got great material quality. The Helicity is obviously going to be warmer especially in extremely windy conditions. You'll notice a fairly big difference with this jacket being 700 fill and the Destiny being 600 fill. They use the same down in both though. All of my TNF down jackets are great! I really love them, well they're not my favorite but they're really nice. My wife's favorite is her backcountry.com Luft 800 Down Sweater which is 800 fill down. You can't go wrong with TNF though. They use great stuff. Also, the Helicity is just a couple, well 2 or 3 inches longer than the Destiny jacket.Hope that helps.
I returned this jacket because of the hood. It doesn't come over the mouth when closed, like the Marmot does. This feature really saves me on the Marmot. The hood fits funny around the face, with opening hitting the chin awkwardly.
Overall a nice jacket. Would be better if the hood was different. The hood does not fill well, always tugging to keep it down on your head. The other thing is it needs a powder skirt, as it would stop with the draft the comes up the bottom the a jacket.
How many layers can you wear under this? It looks like only thin layers will fit. Also, to what temperature would you say this coat is good for? Thanks!
I wear this jacket every single day to ride my horses in, and the best part is that I can fit a baselayer AND a fleece jacket underneath. That way, once I am warmed up I can take it off while I work and then put it right back down to cool the horse after we work. I HIGHLY recommend this jacket.
Recieved this coat and it is really warm, but very puffy up in the shoulder area. I am an XS and I looked like a Michelin tire. Maybe if I was taller it would look different. Fits true to size, I usually wear a 2 and XS was perfect. I didn't think it was as flattering but, excellent for what it is used for!
I bought this coat for my wife to use in cold weather and for snowboarding. She love's it! Great fit, very flattering to the female figure for a down jacket. Not big and bulky like the old down jackets but yet still keeps her "toasty" with only a base layer and dryfit shirt on underneath in mid 30 degree temps. With the Windstopper capabilities of the jacket the wind will get in to where it is able and you will notice it cause you can't feel it anywhere else. Where it comes in for her is at the chin; so keep in mind if you get cold easily; as she does, you will need to wear a scarf or neck gaiter up on the hill. She gets looks all the time and everytime she wears the jacket someone compliments her on it. Great coat, I just hope it lasts because it costs a pretty penny!
I'm not sure what you are comparing to, but here are a few things to look at that might help! They are all below $200.1. 700 fill down - Thats a pretty decent rating, it'll be really packable and warm with less weight. If weight is not primary, you can probably go down to 650 or 600 fill down, that will cost less. Maybe the Mountain Hardwear Sub-Zero? http://www.backcountry.com/store/MHW0933/Mountain-Hardwear-Sub-Zero-Down-Jacket-Womens.html2. If you want the nicer down, and its something else, this one is pretty great... it doesn't have a hood though.http://www.backcountry.com/store/PAT0601/Patagonia-Down-Jacket-Womens.htmlhttp://www.backcountry.com/store/TNF0142/The-North-Face-Nuptse-Down-Jacket-Womens.html3. If you want a hood, 700 fill down.. my last choice would compromise the waterproofing slightly. (Its only water resistant!)http://www.backcountry.com/store/MAR0679/Marmot-Ama-Dablam-Down-Jacket-Womens.htmlHope that helps!
I would love to write a review. Placed my order on 2/15 and UPS says this order isnt scheduled for delivery until 2/25. A little long for delivery in this day and age!
Loved the color, but the fit was very narrow and no XL made. Had to return it. Purchased a MT. Hardware down instead. Found it let the wind in through the zipper...they need a placket over it! Otherwise lovely.
This jacket is NOT windproof. I live in Wy where the gearheads said this would be the best jacket for the conditions here, well I went hunting and FROZE for a week. This might be an ok 100$'s. So just wanted to give a shout out to the gearheads. Would not let my dog wear this!!!!!
I purchased this coat for the warmth. This is a warm coat but, I have used warmer. What I really love about this coat is the sticking of the down. The back which is not shown has great sticking too. I have warn this coat for about 2 weeks and have gotten several comments from other women that they like the cut and the sticking. This is the perfect coat for around town on the weekend, after hitting the slopes. If you plan on being outside for a long time on cold night. I would find a coat that has a longer cut.
bought this jacket for my girlfriend, absolutely bombproof. skied twice in it this year in weather less than 20 degrees and she only had to wear a t-shirt more...
