good all around shoe,

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit:True to size

I bought this boot awhile ago, wore them in Wyoming snow and on into the summer now. I've taken them backpacking this summer and they work great. I do not like them as much as the low cut style. I had a pair of them before those and i really liked them a lot. I think that is just my taste in boot styles. all around good boot.

Poor soles

Great boot comfortable & light weight. Only problem worn 40hrs per week at work in dairy plant & layered soles worn to breaking point in only 3 months. I know this is not a work boot, but still was hoping for at least 6 months of wear. Also traction not great under these wet textured floor conditions. Going for solid 1 piece sole next.

    Great boot

This boot is outstanding. In one word: nimble. Makes you want to go fast. It is very cushioned. Great for hiking with a light pack. Too soft for backpacking with heavy loads. It fits me great; I have been hiking in the hedgehog low for years with good results. The higher version feels similar, but adds some ankle support. The tread is grippy.
So far the waterproofing is good. I mostly hike in the dry climates of Utah. This boot breathes pretty well; better than an all leather goretex boot. Highly recommend.

      Great boot

      Quality could be improved

A little disappointed with the quality of these boots. The left boot arrived with what seemed like shoddy glue-work, there was a tiny gap where the toe joined the bottom of the sole. I thought it was nothing to worry about, I broke them in with a couple of quick hikes, and took them with me to Nepal on a 12 day trek. On day 5, the little opening grew wider, by day 8, the right side also started separating. Had to walk around gingerly, hoping it would hold till the end of my trek. Not good.

Other than that, the gore-tex lining was great, and the grip on these shoes were pretty good, was good on everything except ice.

        Could have been my favorite...

Pretty good, lightweight, waterproof boot... Extremely comfortable; even after 20+ miles (summitted Granite Peak, MT in these) my feet never felt sore. After the trip, however, I noticed that the soles were chewed up pretty bad. I was missing pea-sized pieces of rubber and there were a lot of cuts and tears into the rest of the sole. The boots are awesome for backpacking and hiking on most trails, but these won't last long when used on rough, rocky ascents.

could this boot handle some light...

could this boot handle some light glissading?

          Hey andp7704,

When it comes to The North Face Hedgehog Tall III GTX XCR Boot and glissading, since it is a hiking boot a little glissade of a somewhat flat area with softer snow conditions would be fine. Anything harder or steeper would probably require more of a mountaineering boot and possibly crampons.
