The North Face built the Women's Hedgehog GTX XCR Low Hiking Shoe for trail running, hiking, or walking. The North Face added lightweight Vibram outsoles to these streamlined, low-profile shoes for unbeatable traction. A lightweight EVA midsole cushions your soles. The Hedgehog's waterproof sandwich mesh increases breathability, the abrasion-resistant synthetic nubuck upper adds strength and support, and the waterproof breathable Gore-Tex XCR membrane keeps your feet dry in inclement weather.
Bottom Line: The North Face Women's Hedgehog XCR Low Hiking Shoe equips you for Mother Nature's gnarly topographic challenges.
I wore these shoes on a 16 mile hike through the Blue Ridge Mountains and they never let me down. I wear an 8 1/2 - 9. I ordered the 9 and they were a little to big. Returned for 8 1/2 and they worked great. Wear them on all the trails. I bought the Khaki and Chrysanthemum and they are more of an olive than the brown that is shown in the picture, but still great looking.
I love the hedgefrogs. On my last backpacking trip I ended up using them more often than my boots (I had bought a pair as water shoes). I want to try to hedgehogs but haven't seen them a local store.
Are they as comfy as the hedgefrogs? How do these hedgehogs compare? Thanks & Be well!
Fantastic sexy shoe ! Light, comfy, great support on uneven ground, excellent grip, and waterproof. I use them for bush walking and walking to work in the city ! The only qualm - I have to tie the laces up in a double knot as the laces are nylon and come apart easily.

In the older version of these shoes, I think the sizing was dead on. I wear an 8.5 and the 8.5 fit perfectly. But I bought a pair yesterday at the North Face Outlet and had to go up half a size to a 9. My toes felt like they were gonna hit the front of the shoe on downhills.
Could it get any better than this? I wear a size ten, and for my 5'6" frame, I usually love the way a shoe looks, but by the time they bring out my size and I try them on, I look like I'm ALL FEET. These shoes are not only practical, but they look good. My husband looked down at my feet the other day during our outdoor rain filled mountain trek, and said, "wow, babe. Those actually look really cute on you." I'll take it. The only thing that was a little disconcerting was the water build up in the shoe. Because they are low shoes, and waterproof, the water was seeping inside and stayed there. I stopped and poured out about a quarter cup of h2O my feet were sloshing around in. . .So. . . I decided to get some waterproof PANTS. PERFECT. I know the waterproofing MUST work however, because even though the water was seeping in around my ankles, my toes were still dry. . . Well, for a while, until the water traveled to reach them . . . GREAT SHOE
This is the fourth pair I have owned. Need I say more? I wear them every day for at least an hour while walking my dogs (cross country style)! They usually last about a year before they start to break down (no longer waterproof/soles wear down). Best arch support around! North Face - please don't discontinue....EVER.
These are my second pair of North Face shoes and I'm getting more and more impressed with NF footwear. They are definitely waterproof. Not exactly the most attractive sports shoe in my opinion. I mainly use them for trail running and occassional hiking. I had to replace the original insole with superfeets because I developed plantar faciitis when I first started running in them, but I've never had a problem since. Once these fall apart, I'll probably go for the Mid size model for the extra ankle support.
They have great traction and are super lightweight. I feel like a cavorting mountain goat in these things and can't help but run up and leap off of things I wouldn't otherwise. Very fun, comfortable, and worth the money. Also, the waterproofing is great for early spring runoff.
I should qualify this by saying I've worn these shoes just about every day for the past year. I've had these shoes for about a year and a half. Although they fit well and have kept my feet dry, I don't think I would buy North Face again. Any initial support I originally felt with the insole quickly deminished and I found myself trying to wear them with inserts which was most uncomfortable due to the shallow footbed. They just don't seem to have held up nearly as well as I expected..
It's best to alternate shoes -- that is, son't wear the same shoes 2 days iin a row. Also, you probably have much more than 500 miles on those shoes. Regardless, shoes you use regularly should only be worn for 6 months. I read most of this in 'Runer's World'.
You should expect any shoe that you wear every day for a year to 'HOLD UP'.. Good luck!
I have special orthodics I have to wear in all my shoes. I've had a problem finding shoes that are high enough in the heal that they don't slip off, does anyone know if these shoes are high in the heal?
GREAT shoe, even better than the older version which I bought two years ago. Great style, love the blue color, comfy right out of the box, definitely waterproof. I wore my last pair nearly every day, and it took about a year for them to start leaking water into the shoe when I'd hike through puddles. I usually wear a 9.5, but I have gotten these in a 10 and that has worked out really well. That way i can wear thicker socks for hiking if I want to. I always double knot the laces because they do slip.
These feel really nice, good grip, water proof. My wife is very happy with them especially that she wears size 5 and those are really hard to find in the store, luckily we have backcountry.com
I bought this shoe for a hiking/camping trip to the New Mexico mountains. THey took a little bit of breaking in but after that were super comfortable. They looked terrific with shorts or long pants either. I thought the traction was very good and always felt very secure with them on. My only problem was the waterproofing. One day we got caught out in a downpour on a trail. They kept my feet pretty dry but after we made it back to our car the wetness started to seep through and my feet were damp. Luckily I had brought another pair of shoes but it also took them a day or so to dry out. We spent a day shopping in town and it rained that day but my feet stayed dry so maybe these just aren't meant for being out in a torrential downpour for an hour! Otherwise great shoes and I highly recommend them.
i have a mild case of scoliosis, and it becomes a task trying to find a shoe that i can wear and not have back problems. this shoe doesn't bother my back at all. my doctor has told many of his patients with scoliosis to wear this shoe. it is fashionable and it has good support. i love it.
True to size (my feet are pretty average as far as width.) Super comfy (hiked in Moab and use for elliptical 5 days a week for an hour) stylee - tons of compliments! Great traction - no feeling of slip on loose dirt, or slick rock. Took about 4-5 times until broken in which is average for all new shoes in my opinion! Laces stayed tied and tight so never have to worry about coming untied or tightening. LOVE these shoes!
I wore these shoes on a 16 mile hike through the Blue Ridge Mountains and they never let me down. I wear an 8 1/2 - 9. I ordered the 9 and they were more...
Fantastic sexy shoe ! Light, comfy, great support on uneven ground, excellent grip, and waterproof. I use them for bush walking and walking to work more...
