Encase yourself in The North Face Men’s Hawthorn Jacket and enjoy fireplace warmth and backcountry functionality while the storm rages. The North Face constructed this parka with a waterproof breathable, seam-sealed HyVent shell and 550-fill down insulation to battle winter’s extremes. Tons of pockets make space for tools, gear, passes, and snacks, and the hood’s removable faux fur trim stops ice-gold gusts in their tracks.
It seems like other customers had the same problem. When I read the posts about the hood being too large I thought to myself, "hey, how large can it be, can't be that bad". Guess what...it's way over sized. The hood constantly blocked my view. Annoyed me so much after a couple of days I decided to return the product. I exchanged it for the North Face Amongstit, which I turned out loving. Hood fits great. Stylish.
Hi, i purchased this jacket for my husband as a birthday gift. i am curious to know , what max temperature (- degree Farenheight) it can protect from cold?. i live in Fort Mcmurray, Canada. the temperature goes upto -40 F.
This jacket fits completely different than the parka...very very tight in my normal size, the weimeriener brown looks more like grey/light brown in person and difficult to match other colors...I prefer the mcmurdo parka for sure in swamp green (goes with brown or black leather) just go one size down from your normal in that one because they run huge!! Ever heard of standard sizing north face? Geez...

Hi, I'm interested in Hawthorn jacket, unfortuantely I hasn't been able to try it on yet. How does it compare to Ice jacket. Is it more fitted? I tried Ice jacket in Medium and it was a bit roomy for me. I'm 5.7", 155 pounds, authletically build. I like fitted jackets, but not too fitted. Thanks
I purchased this jacket for my husband for Xmas and he absolutely loved it!! The only issue he had with the jacket were the fur trim but the great thing was it is removable. It is true to size. He wears an XL and the XL fits him perfectly. It was very light weight and I was worried it wouldn't keep him warm enough during New England winter but surprisingly, he says its very warm and gets hot sometimes when he was out snow blowing. All in all, great jacket and I would recommend it to anyone.
Does anyone know if the Hawthorn is supposed to be as "Puffy" as the McMurdo Jacket? I purchased the Hawthorn because it doesn't look like a dress, but my dad has the McMurdo and the insulation is much thicker. Both have a 550-fill rating.
Thanks Dave, that makes sense. North Face provides a specific volume of down that will cover 550 cu.in. per ounce of down used. What they don't tell is the ounces of fill provided for the jacket. Wish they would do that for future reference, it would help when ordering online.
The McMurdo is definitely the heavier insulated jacket of the two. The 550 down rating tells you that the two jackets use the same type of down insulation, but it doesn't tell you how much of it is used to insulate the jacket. Hope this helps
This is my first down jacket I never wanted one before because there puffy and shiny. This jacket is changed my veiw I love it! Fits great I bought The XXL im 6'2 220 it fits perfect, has a ton of pockets and its so warm I had it on the other night when it -10 and I was still so warm. I would think everyone should have one. Also back country is the best I bought one of last years for $78, I love you guys at back country.
I'm a huge North Face fan...like nobody's business, but l always try to not let my bias for gear cloud my review, but l gotta say that this jacket is excellent. l'm always outside, and l like my technical shell with my Denali zipped in, but this jacket is boss because l love down jackets, but always am a little scared about getting them wet and having the thing be useless, but l like how TNF incorperated the Hyvent system into this, which makes me feel happy when the going gets tough, and come on, it has a fur lined hood! A very practical jacket for that wonderfully horrible New England winter days. It's like your own little slice of florida! (Minus the Bannana Hammocks. )
I just got the Black Hawthorn and mine does not detach from the jacket. You can detach the fur liner, but the hood itself will not come off. Not sure if the different colors have a difference, or if there are different models.
I ordered the jacket thinking the insulation thickness would be similar to that of the McMurdo; however, the Hawthorn I purchased has a much thinner insulation. Both are rated for 550-fill. I really liked the styling of the Hawthorn as it is a coat you can wear on a normal day without it looking like a dress. Very thick outer skin too great for blocking the wind and water. Wore it to a Chicago Bears game last weekend, and it was great at keeping me warm and protected from the water and wind. Although the temp was about 35 or so. Still have yet to test it in the sub-zero temps. I know the McMurdo works very well for those, I'm hoping the Hawthorn does as well.
