It's warm, beautifull, not heavy, good size (small for 5,51 feet and 121 lbs) but not carry big pull over under. Thanks at Backcountry for high quality services. Véronique
I doubt you'll be able to replace the belt itself. If you bought the jacket on Backcountry.com then simply exchange it or send it back for a refund as they have a life time guarantee.
I love my jacket! :) I get cold extremely easily, but this jacket more or less keeps me warm (well done!!)and I don't feel the short length is a problem at all, as it covers what it's supposed to and heat up the torso well.

We just had almost 2 feet of snow here in PA. I gave my girlfriend this jacket for Christmas. We were outside in the snow most of the day. She stayed dry & said she was never so warm. She said, she never felt the cold. Great jacket. She looked great in it too. Can't beat a North Face Product.
Is the belt on this coat the same style as last years. I really felt that if you left the belt undone it was clunky and loud. It was the only reason I haven't bought one yet because I know it's not detachable.
I love this jacket because it is warm and has a nice shape. The fur hood is stylish and large enough that you can pull it over your head without completely squishing your hair. I like the belt, it is easy to fasten, but the metal clasp is a bit clunky.
I have this coat in antique white and it is very very warm. So warm that I hate wearing sweaters or anything else up under it. This coat keeps me warm but has me sweating like CRAZY!!The only thing that I dislike is that with the belt placed where it is...it would seem like the jacket should be longer. I originally purchased for my daughter who just entered high school and is walking, so i figured that with a walk she needs to be warm... But what a surprise to me when she said she did not want the coat!!! Cool because I needed a new coat anyway! Her stepdad bought her another coat and now I find her stalking back country's site for sales.. Oh well!!!
I'm going to college in boston next year and want a coat that will keep me WARM while walking through campus in cold boston winters. Do you think this would be warm enough?? I get cold easily... if not, any other suggestions under $150? Thanks!
The TNF Greenland is definitely suitable for cold/urban wear. The warmth rating goes by its insulation of goose down : at 550-down fill, it is mighty warm for transit/walking in cold winter uses, just what u might need in Boston. By my experience (and do note that personal cold tolerances differ), a 550-fill down jacket can be simply worn over a cotton tee in temps down to 25-30 F. So imagine layering over a fleece.
There are other options, at this price range available too. Here's some suggestions (however depending on your size/avail. stock):
1. Menlo Down Parka - Same price/more pockets (2 more)/longer length jacket (by 1 inch longer which helps against the cold). Same insulation rating of 550-fill down. This is a shiny, puffy alternative - but its longer length and additional pockets are a draw for the price. But this looks very different from the Greenland.
2. Gotham Down Jacket - Styled similar to the Greenland, cheaper but shorter (at 24 inches back length versus the 27 inches of the Greenland). Same no. of pockets and same insulation rating. From past comments, sometimes you might not want that much "material" to lug around campus, especially indoors in the lectures and halls. At 24 inches, it means the bottom (waist down) isn't covered.
3. Transit Down Jacket - Warmer (600-fill down), longer length (longest of the selection here), and cheaper. Same no. of pockets. For those really cold days, and also so that you don't need to layer much more. Colors and sizes limited though.
The above selections are available from Backcountry.com. Hope this helps.
I absolutely love my Northface Greenland Jacket. i purchased one for me and my dtr and its the perfect fit. It keeps us warm and i already washed my dtr's jacket according toi the instructions and its good as new. I would recommend this jacket to everyone. Its definately a keeper....
Please help! I'm considering ordering this jacket in the ink blue plaid but I'm wondering what kind of blue it is? In the picture it looks really dark, almost black. Is the color darker than the regular ink blue color for north face jackets? Any help/insight would be appreciated. Thanks!
It's definately not black but it is a darker blue with a subtle black plaid pattern. I've had this coat for about 18 months and have received many compliments.
I ADORE this coat - I found it at Macy's but they only had the black in my size, so I got the grey in my size from backcountry. Really, this coat is about as good as it gets. I love that the fur zips off of the hood - and that the hood doesn't look incomplete or too short or anything without the fur (though I have worn it with the fur a couple times - super cute). It is incredibly warm and is a style that won't fade - very simple and chic (especially since you can zip the fur off once that isn't the "it" thing anymore). I expect this coat to last me many years. The color is also very unique - it's grey but it is a lot prettier than your usual grey - hard to describe without seeing it. Anyway, if you couldn't tell, I love it :).
Ok, I don't own this jacket YET,but will order it for my own X-mas gift!!! Love North Face (women's)-'Gotham' jacket; I have it in pewter color-(silver!...very cool!!);had it for 3 yrs...So warm!!! Stylish too! LOVE this company's jackets! Looking forward to getting THIS!...just have to decide which color!!! THANKS,'Back Country'...YOU are awesome, still!!! -Sheila R.
CAN I SKI IN THIS JACKET? I read that it is for 'lifestyle' or 'casual'. hmmm?? I want to be able to wear it in the snow too. I bought the Freedom LRBC Pants to go with this jacket and it looks great together. Super Cute!
Hi all, I am so tossed between ordering the Black or the Ink color, and also what size to get? Typically I am a small. About 5'4, 125. Any advice? Thanks in advance!
I just got the black and it looks great! I am 5'7" and 128lbs and I bought a Medium. It fits good. I do wish it was little longer, but it fits great other than that. I'm typically a size 4 and decided not to go with a small b/c I hate tight jackets! Good Luck!
I have worn this jacket a couple times since I purchased it. It looks cute and keeps me warm! I wore it while playing outside in the snow with my son and with jeans running errands! I did find the fur (one reason why I bought it) to be annoying if you have the hood on, so I removed it. If I am not wearing the hood, I keep it on b/c it is cute! The only things I feel TNF could improve on is the length, it is fine but I would prefer it to be a couple inches longer. I am 5'7" and 125lb and I got a Medium and it fits great! I don't like tight jackets.
Hello, I bought the North Face Greenland Down Jacket in 2008, but this year I broke my zipper.Where can I buy a new zipper like this one? Now I put a paperclip on it :(
The North Face will replace that if you send it in. Their customer service line is 1-866-715-3223 (prompt 7), or email them at tnf_consumerservices@vfc.com. You can also go online to www.thenorthface.com/returns. Alternatively, if you bought it from Backcountry, you can return it for a full refund here. Get on Live Chat (upper right corner of the page) and they'll set you up.
Hi Indigo- I would give The North Face Warranty Dept a call at 1-866-715-3223 and find out if they want you send just the buckle or the whole jacket in to them for replacement/repair. Sounds like something that they can easily take care of.

I am 6'1" and I bought a large in this jacket despite my fears that it would be too short, however, its just perfect! The arms are plush and comfortable and the jacket is really stylish. I love how you can adjust the belt to fit your waist. Winters and skiing are warm in this jacket!
I had my jacket cleaned after the winter season last year (not dry cleaned, just professional cleaning) and now there is yellow spots. What can I do to try and get rid of these?
I bought this jacket for after skiing and for everyday walking in the winter. The HyVent fabric makes the jacket much warmer than my 550 fill down TNF without this fabric. It is also very breathable and waterproof. The insulated hood is awesome and looks great with or without the detachable faux fur. I have received many compliments on this coat. I am 5'3" so the length is perfect and keeps my hips warm, too. It is stylish and warm.
Wife loves it,,she says it's a great jacket,,she gets a lot of compliments,,it's warm & she says it's well worth the money(yeah, cuz she didn't pay for it!),,recommends it to others.
I have mixed reviews on this coat, probably not because of the coat but because of what I was looking for. I could only afford one coat this season so I was looking for a very warm coat for snowshoeing and other winter activities but also something that was attractive to wear as an everyday warm coat around town. This coat almost does it but it isn't great for skiing or showshoeing, mostly because of the length and lack of a snow skirt. The length of the coat is short enough that wind does blow up it. I did keep the coat and I've been wearing it often, I have received many compliments on how it looks while wearing it around town and it's plenty warm for that purpose. I'm giving 3 stars for the length, I think if NF solved that this coat would be perfect.
Bought this for a trip to China. Turned our to be the coldest winter in over 50 years in Beijing. The coat was great; kept my daughter toasty at near zero.
I've had this jacket for a few weeks now & absolutely love it! We live in MN & the temperatures have been brutal the past few weeks, not to mention the mounds of snow that have built up & this jacket has been awesome! The hood is especially nice & toasty on my walks in to work.
