Here's what others have to say...

Heavy duty

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Got these for winter hiking. I love the extra wide Velcro down the front and the material is very strong. Should last many years.
I wear a size 10 1/2 boot and have fairly thick calves and the large is almost big on me... Almost. Could have probably got the medium and those would have fit perfect.

Beefy, and there to save your pants

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Was looking for a beefier gaiter to protect my hiking pants when wearing mountaineering crampons. The NF Gore-Tex Gaiter's answered the call. I sliced them up a few times on a descent but it's far better to slice (and then patch) your gaiters than your fancy gore-tex hiking pants, right? Right?? Anyway, these gaiters deliver everything they claim, the tightening mechanism up top works quite well, and as added bonus they are Gore-Tex so they'll breathe best they can to move sweat away from your shins. Worth the money!

awesome but very narrow

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I ordered 4 pairs of gaiters and ended up choosing these to lead snowshoe hikes. Do not size yourself according to TNF guide provided (based on shoe size) - use the width of your calf. I wear a woman's size 9.5 in hiking boots and ended up having to get a size xl in these. I have about a 16 inch calf circumference and needed to be able to fit a few layers under these. I don't think I could get them over any heavy layers, but over wool socks, a base layer, and water resistant leggings or hiking pants they fit perfectly. To compare, the mountain hardwear pinnacle stretch xl I could kick off even when it was cinched down all the way. I ultimately chose these for the elastic in the back that holds them against the upper heel of your boot. There is no excess fabric to bunch up or get in the way when strapping on snow shoes.

I have used them a few times and so far they have held up well for the snowshoeing hikes. No snow got in, the quick release buckle is a nice touch and stayed secure, no rips or tears despite a few scrapes with the snowshoes, and they vented well.

Would probably give 5 stars if the sizing wasn't so off.
