Even if the forecast looks great, stuff The North Face Boys’ Geosphere Wind Jacket into his backpack before he heads up the trail. It’s lightweight and packs small, so your kid won’t even notice it. But once he gets above the hardwoods, where the wind always blows, he’ll be glad he has it. When the sun dives below the ridge and they set up camp, he’ll have a hood and brushed chin guard to shield him from the cold alpine breeze until he gets the fire hot.

Bottom Line: Until then, the Geosphere has got his back.

Hi Cricket - It does have a DWR treatment, and is water resistant. If you are looking for something waterproof in a similar type shell, I would recommend looking at The North Face Resolve or Venture jackets-

Too thin!

This jacket looks really good in the picture above, so I bought it for my son, thinking it would slightly thicker than a rain jacket, like maybe 2 layers of fabric or something. Unfortunately, it is very thin (seems like only 1 layer of nylon if I'm not mistaken). This jacket doesn't look like it'll keep my son any warmer than the rain jacket he currently has, so I returned it. It looked pretty cool, so I was contemplating keeping it, but I thought $49.95 for a rain jacket for my 5 year old would be too pricey!
