These pants are shells so no insulation. I usually wear a 200 weight merino base layer with these pants and I am fine down to the mid teens. I prefer shell only as it allows you to be more dynamic with your base layering system depending on the temp that day
There isnt any insulation with these pants. There made to keep outr the wind and snow with out building up condinsation. depending on the temp you will want to layer with a base and insulating layer under.
I just picked these up on line. Plan to use for resort and back country skiing. Material and craftsmanship is excellent but these are cut just waaaay to baggy. I ordered a large and I am 6 ft 190. Waist and length are okay but I am just swimming in these. Also no articulation in the knee so they don't want to move with you when you bend. Not sure if NF is so main stream they are catering to obese people but I cant imagine a lot of athletic people being happy with these.

Skied 7 days with these now. Warmer than I thought they would be, but regulated temperature very well. Also very lightweight, durable, and not bulky, so they pack up very well if you roll them up. This is the proshell and will not let you down. I have several items in my gear with and without Gore-Tex and it is definitely worth the extra money, especially in such a durable pant that should last.
Is there a 6-star option? These pants truly go above and beyond anything on the market. Definitely the most rugged feeling pants I've ever come across. And also the baggiest for a skiing/expedition pant. Fit & finish is well beyond what I had expected from North Face gear (or any mfr, for that matter). The nylon strikes me as extremely durable, but not as stiff and crinkly as some of the other Pro Shell pants. Lots of nice features too. Plenty of pocket space with sealed zippers, super durable kick patches on the instep of the pant, also durable nylon patches on the instep of the gaiter, zippered thigh vents, thicker than usual felt on the inside of the waistband, Recco reflector and a waistband that tightens with large, sturdy velcro tabs. Comes with detachable suspenders that have a flap covering the small of your back as a small powder guard. I'm told this small flap can be unzipped and that small area of the waste can be attached to the matching jacket, but I'm not sure I see much benefit to this. Bottom line is I'm bowled over with the features, durability and finish quality of these pants. I just wish they were a bit narrower throughout.
What is the difference btwn TNF Summit Series pants;Potosi,Point Five, Mountain, Enzo and Thinker? I need a 40" waist with a 29" inseam. I ski close to 100 days a years. Money counts, but not as much as staying warm & dry.
