Icy sidewalks cower and deep-snow trails submit when they see The North Face Women’s Four Shadows GTX Winter Boot coming. This stout winter boot keeps you warm and dry down to 40 below while providing maximum traction on any wintry surface. The synthetic nubuck upper features a waterproof breathable Gore-Tex membrane and warm Primaloft insulation, and a Dri-Lex fleece lining in the tongue and collar add a soft touch. A full-length TPU shank gives the Four Shadows a rigid platform for snowshoeing or hiking on rough trails, and the Winter Grip rubber sole with temperature-sensitive Ice Pick lugs bites into urban and backcountry paths with equal ferocity.

Bottom Line: Winter trails fear the Four Shadows Boot.

Solid, but Stiff Boots

By:
January 1, 2010

These boots look amazing and are high quality build. They hold up well to a beating. My feet also stay very warm in these. On the downside, they are STIFF. The back of the boot hits me in the calf and rubs a little weird when I walk in these. They definitely are channeling ski boots in this department. I have found that the best use for these is snowshoeing because your leg doesn't move in a regular walking motion (and thus does not rub funny). Not sure I would recommend these boots for hiking or wearing around town because they are pretty bulky. The one time I wore them to a store I felt like a gorilla going to prom. Yeah....but for snowshoeing these are great!

Great boots for backcountry activities

By:
January 4, 2010

I love these boots. Put them to the test on two challenging days. Windy sub zero climb on Mt Tom in the whites and a cold high windchill deep powder snowshoe climb on Moosilaukee in the whites.
pros:Warm, comfy, plenty of toe room. Great traction.
cons: cloth eyelet broke on second day of use and had to return them. Getting another pair because they are super women's boots,

I have a bad ankle and flat feet. Are these boots supportive?

I have a bad ankle and flat feet. Are these boots supportive? I will use them mostly for snowshoeing. I do use orthotics, but still need a supportive boot so ankles and feet won't hurt. And if not these... any other suggestions?

awesome vegan boots

I searched high and low to find a quality snow boot with no leather, suede, sheep, or other animal parts. These boots are comfortable and kept my feet nice and toasty, even with crummy socks. I haven't tested them in extreme cold but in 15+ degree weather they are great. Sizing note: I would recommend ordering a half size up. Love them!

Disappointed

By:

I agree - these were very uncomfortable and cut my leg because they were rubbing against it. They also ran small. Too bad because I loved the way they looked :( On the bright side backcountry has the easiest returns EVER!!

Bof, dissapointed

By:

I bought those boots last year and really I can not wear them. It is like having a ski boot in my foot.
They are to high in the back and hurting my leg.
Too bad because they are warm.

Excellent lightweight and waterproof

By:

I bought these for myself and my 12 year old daughter for a trip to Switzerland with our Girl scout troop. We both have wide feet and hate wearing shoes. They were excellent. We had massive amounts of snow, loads of ice to walk on and we snowshoed for the first time . My daughter played in the snow for hours. Our feet were warm and dry the whole week when otherers had wet cold feet. many of my scouts liked them because they look like a pair of trainers , not winter boots.

So far so good!

By:

I live in the Arctic here in Alaska. The temps as of late have been 40 below and then some. So far these boots have been fantastic! My feet stay very warm. The boots are light weight and have great traction. They are perfect for standing around watching the Northern Lights! And on top of all of this....they look really cool too!!!

Returned the boots

By:

I didn't like them, compare to the quality of Merrell or Vasque those boots did not look like they would hold up to the rugged terrain I usually hike in!! Might have been fine for winter in the city but that's it!!
