The North Face Women’s Foil Thermal II Down/PrimaLoft Jacket uses stretch panels, plus down and PrimaLoft insulation, for a sweet mix of flexibility, fit, and low-bulk warmth.

  • 550-Fill down in torso for warmth
  • Polartec Power Stretch fleece at sides and under arms for a streamlined fit and plenty of flexibility
  • Earth-friendly PrimaLoft Eco insulation at sleeves
  • Performance cut reduces bulk
  • Asymmetric zipper at neck and side-entry zips for a unique look

Bottom Line: Curvy.

Not pretty

By:

From the photos, it looks pretty decent and warm. I was fairly disappointed when I received this jacket (in white), there were absolutely no pockets (an essential for cold weather) and it pretty much looked like one of those jackets for mental institutes. I would not recommend this product.

Hi guys,

Do you think I could wear this under my ski jacket for the really cold days? Would it look bulky?

Absolutely! This is really meant to be a layer piece- hence the no pockets and the stretch along the sides. The best part is that you get the synthetic insulation at the sleeves to keep your arms warm and which will dry quickly if they do happen to get wet, and you have the warmth from the down on your chest which is not as likely to get snow in it.

Rockin Baselayer!

By:
November 6, 2010

I LOVE this Jacket. I live downstate NY but ski upstate and it's perfect as a base layer for skiing upstate and great for walking around town on blustery days in NYC or riding in gale force winds at Jones Beach..Brrr- either way the wind is killer! I wear it at night when camping - temps can dip around the low 40's. The zippers on the side act as quick vents and the neck line is perfect for keeping snow and cold out. This jacket is not restricting in any way! However, it is form fitting and semi-cropped - short in length. I am 5'7" -150 and fits me beautifully! I have it in both white and black and I get compliments on both. Now I can look for a sweet looking shell this year and get rid of my big down jacket. Enjoy ladies!!!

How warm is it? I'm looking to climb Kilimanjaro and I need a down mid-layer. It's kind of hard to test now that spring is here. Thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Not for even the 'slightly tall'

By:
November 18, 2009

Unfortunately, like many other (but not all!) women's North Face tops/jackets, the length of the Foil....fell short. I am slim and 5'9" and usually want a small (occasionally xs) for width, but the Foil barely made it to my waist. Interesting combo of zippers - it is indeed a pullover. The 3-zipper concept could still be cool and functional if you don't mind pulling it over your head, but unless you're petite or have a shorter-than-average torso, the Foil won't be long enough. (I also wanted it a fraction slimmer). Definitely not giving up on The North Face, just need to try things on first. Liked all the materials and the soft fleece inside the collar. Maybe the M & L are longer?

Hi,

Do you think this would fit under a ski jacket? On those bitter cold days this could be a good option. Or do you think it would be too bulky and i would be better off buying a down ski jacket.

This is certainly an interesting jacket. I can't answer the pocket part, but after reading the north face website (http://tinyurl.com/yjav6cp), this is what I believe how the zippers work: it's got 3 zippers, 1 at the neck to one of the arms on the side (like you see in the picture) - you unzip it to stick your head through. Another 2 zip/unzip from the armpits to the waist. So you unzip all 3 zippers, stick your head through the top, pull the whole thing down, then zip up the top zipper as well as the 2 side zippers from the armpits to the waist. So in other words, it's a pullover.
