A lot of trail runs begin on forest service roads. Sometimes your entire run is along a dirt or gravel road or an ATV trail. Wear lightweight, low-profile The North Face Men's Fire Road Trail Running Shoes for these runs on mildly technical topography. To create the Fire Roads, The North Face put together elements of a road running shoe, such as flex and responsiveness, with the control and stability you find in a trail shoe. A heel pad cushions and reduces overpronation while the forefoot Snake Plate protects your sole from stone bruising. The lugged outsole moves you over rocky and muddy terrain alike.
Bottom Line: If most of your trail runs are on fire roads, ATV trails, and well-maintained hiking trails, then pull on The North Face men's Fire Road Boa Trail Running Shoes.
great shoe, ive worn em just about every day for the past year and have been very impressed with the fact that theyre still extremely comfy, however there are some things that i hate about em. 1- the toe rubber starts talking after a couple months if youre rough on your stuff like me 2- if you step on one blade of grass thats wet, youre screwed because you now have soaken wet socks and feet. (a tad bit of exageration) 3- the black mesh on the outside frays SUPER easy, so if youre looking for a show that stays pretty after a month, keep looking! 4- DON'T EVER DRY NEAR A FIRE! not even 3 feet close!
despite all these things, i loved em and theyre still comfy and rad
These shoes look great and feel great, but it didnt take long for the parts of the shoe that were glued together to start coming apart. not completely but enough so that a new shoe looked like an old one. The shoe has remained very comfortable after 2 years though.
I have a pair, and I have a very narrow foot. They fit me the best of all the North Face shoes I own (have 6 or 7 pair..). They also seem to run true to size to me.

These are the best running shoes I have tried yet! Excellent ventilation, very cushy ride and an absolutely affordable price. The best thing about these shoes is the extremely wide sole. The waist of the shoe is almost as wide as both the forefoot and the heel, thus the fire road is as stable a ride as you can get. Road, fire road, or technical singletrack, just put these babies on and run!
My favorite non-technical terrain shoe. If I'm not on a super burly trail where I look for a stiffer platform - this is my go-to shoe. Great comfort and flexibility. My favorite fit in the TNF trail line (I have a more narrow foot).
I am a woman, 5'9.5" and approx. 145lbs. with "duck-shaped" feet in that I have a wide forefoot and squared-off toes and a narrow heel. I usually size up to an 11 Women's running shoe (like to wear cushiony socks) so in Men's I would normally get a 9.5 running shoe. Would this discontinued color size 9 (Euro 42) be roomy enough in the toe box without being sloppy in the heel???
Yes, yes and yes! You should be good with a 9.5 in this shoe. These shoes don't seem to have too sloppy of a heel. You might also consider looking at GoLite shoes. They are perfect if you have "duck-shaped" feet. Absolutely fantastic for cushion as well. Hope that helps.
I think this shoe would be very good for that application. It isn't an ultra shoe, but I think it would work well for that distance. I have run 10 miles in mine a few times, and they have worked well.
I trained and ran a 50k in these shoes and loved them. I have a pair with the boa system and with traditional laces. They both feel great I think it's a matter of personal preference on which option is better for you. I hope that The North Face continues to make this model because I will buy more pairs.
I run along a beach trail that devolves into a collection of igneous rocks herded into place by Amtrak. My previous shoes left me vulnerable to the whims of railway stones; these shoes offer a sense of protection. They are as comfortable as any shoes I have worn, and they fit true to size.
These are my absolute favorite running shoes yet! They will drain water quickly, are extremely cushioned and the price is relativly cheap. But the best part of these shoes is the waist of the shoe is almost as wide as the forefoot and heel. Thus the stability is amazing! Road, fireroad, or technical trail- it doesn't matter. Just run.
these are awesome shoes. bought them just before 6 weeks of hard training with the Marines. they work awesome on wet or dry trails or dirt and dry very fast. I also never got tendonitis, which is usually a problem for me.
I ran in this shoe as I was getting back into shape. My left knee began to hurt. The more miles I added to each run the more it hurt. This never used to be the case so I reasoned once I lost some more poundage the pain would cease. Not the case. These shoes trashed quickly (thankfully) and I bought some Mizuno Wave Ascend. Right out of the box I put 10 miles on the 'Zunos and guess what? No knee pain. I don't believe in Jesus so there was no miracle. I was running in sh*tty shoes that were the cause of my pain.
I had to shoe goo the toes, the "reflectors" fell off on the left shoe, padding in the ankles ripped....I don't even run trails, this occurred from runs along the side of the road.
