Hydration takes the cake when it comes to priorities on your hiking list. The North Face E50/50 Bottle Holder makes transporting liquids over the hills and through the woods more satisfying than pouring maple syrup on your pancakes. Tested by The North Face athletes, this ergonomically designed 20 ounce bottle fits comfortably in an included nylon stretch holster with pockets for energy gels and sodium tablets. The holster attaches to a pack or a belt with a hook-and-loop fastener handle, keeping your hands free for safety and fun in the mountains.

Bottom Line: The North Face E50/50 Bottle Holder crushes cotton mouth.

Less bulk, faster run

Having water with you while trail running can be a hassle. Lumbar packs are somewhat irritating and bulky, as is having a camelbak. While the camelbak holds more water it just makes it that much more bulky. So I thought I’d try out The North Face E 50/50 bottle even though I didn’t like the idea of holding a bottle the whole time I ran, it wasn’t as bad as I though. I took a 4 mile run though a canyon and never really noticed that I had it. The straps work well and do most of the holding for you, the only down side is that some of the trails I run are steep enough at times to require your hands so in that case it probably would not work to well and a camlebak may be more suitable. One suggestion fill the bottle with ice before you run so when you need it, the water won’t be body temperature.

Do I have to use the water bottle that comes with the holder, or could I use a standard cycling bottle with it?

Long runs just got easier

This is awesome because it is so easy to carry. You pretty much don't have to do anything because the handle is more narrow compared to others I've looked at, and the straps just hold it in your hand comfortably. It has room for a couple of gel packets or clif shost block packets so you can really run your butt off.

How well does this cap work? Does this ever leak?

It won't leak if you pay attention to keep the mouthpiece closed when you run, otherwise, it will. Make sure that you change from one hand to another regularly because it can block asymatrically the natural motion of your shoulders and unbalance your posture. This is easy to do on the go when you're used to it

No problems with leaks. Great bottle. I think it is pricey but nonetheless love the way it fits in hand.

Hydrate or die.

This is a great handheld bottle for trail running. The shape allows for a very effortless grip (or no grip) which is nice when all I want to do is focus on the miles ahead and the next quad burning ascent. I've incorporated this bottle into my short-mid distance runs, 20 oz. of water or electrolyte drink in cool weather running lasting up to 2 hours is ideal for me, so this bottle fits the bill perfectly. My only beef is that the stretch pockets aren't shaped very well for the average gel packet dimensions, fitting more than 1 gel is doable but not ideal. Honestly, for me, I find this handheld to be superior to the other brands I've seen offered, Nathan, Ultimate Direction etc., their bottles are pretty standard, they do the job but the ergonomical shape of TNF bottle makes it that much easier to hydrate and focus on your run/race. Cheers.

I made my purchased directly based on this review.

Now that I've run around 10-15 miles I would add to the above that the Velcro closure feels a little weak at first. For those with small hands, you may want to investigate another bottle. I feel that my hands are medium-large and the bottle grip feels a little loose sometimes.

Extremely happy with the choice, and again, happy I read this review.
