Description

New and improved.

You won't catch The North Face ever resting on its laurels; even though the Women's Denali Jacket is one of the all-time top-selling fleece jackets, the company went and made it even better. A total commitment to eco-friendly materials now means fewer greenhouse gasses are deposited into the atmosphere when it is made. Of course, you'll still enjoy the versatility of this expedition-weight fleece, whether you're breaking new trails in your snowshoes or dashing across a chilly campus quad between classes.
  • Nylon abrasion panels protect the jacket from backpack straps, ski edges, and other wear-and-tear
  • Zip-in compatible, so you can layer it with a North Face shell for a day on the slopes
  • DWR treatment repels light precipitation
  • Drawcord hem seals out drafts

So happy with this jacket!

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift, but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size

Bought this jacket in prussian blue for my 17 year old daughter who is over 5"10" and typically has problems with sleeve length. The sleeves are perfect for her, the color is beautiful, and she loves it. I appreciated having the jacket measurements before ordering it -- they are true to size.

do all the north face jackets have the emblem on the back as well as the front?

Responded on

This is the case for every model of the Denali jacket that I've ever seen, but some other models only have it on the front. You could probably find more info about this on The North Face website.

Is it warm enough for snow ?

Is it warm enough for snow ?

Responded on

Not on its own, in my experience. It's a warm, comfy fleece and one of my go-to jackets in the winter, but I typically need to layer it with a long sleeve shirt or a sweatshirt to stay warm enough.

Responded on

I wore this on its own in the winter when I lived in NJ both while hiking and as "streetwear" with jeans and a sweater, but it rarely got below 20F there, and I was used to colder winters where I grew up. In those conditions, if you're wearing it for moderate activity in the snow, it is warm enough. If you're not moving around too much you may need something warmer.

Responded on

Keep in mind also, this is not wind/water proof...when it really gets nasty out, the wind will cut right through; and if it starts to drizzle, or melting snow, you will get wet. Best use layers: base layer according to temp, and a rain/wind proof shell (GoreTex is the best at this).

Best Answer Responded on

there are already a few answers to this question, but i wanted to add my thoughts. yes this is warm enough for winter use, depending on what you're doing. out west, most people would be fine with this jacket around freezing temps, and probably happy around 10 if they're doing aerobic activities as long as there's not much wind or precipitation. if you're in the midwest or the east with more humidity, bump those temps up 10 degrees or so. it kinda depends on if you're a warm person or not. The nylon shoulder panels will help repel light powder snow, but you will get wet if thick, wet snow is falling. this jacket would be great for spring on a mountain side.

If you want something for sub zero temps or backcountry activities, a down jacket would be a better choice. it's fine for wearing around town or working hard on a cold but sunny day. but you will want a shell for inclement weather.

I have 2 Denali's that I've had for years. It's the perfect and stylish jacket you could ever have. The front breast pocket is perfect for keys and cell phones while your on the run, and great for layering. I'm 5'10, 190 lbs, and I have a Large, my only problem with the Denali, is the sleeve length, it could be a little longer IMO.

I am considering the Denali or the Khumba...

I am considering the Denali or the Khumba North Face jackets... It says they are the same 300 fleece.....are they equal in warmth?

Responded on

Close, imo. The Denali has the Nylon abrasion panels, which I have found to be -slightly- wind resistant, so the Denali is a bit warmer. For better wind proofing I suggest the Denali Wind Pro. Best of luck!

Responded on

the denali also has dwr coating and more options for cinching the jacket tight. so if perfect conditions, they should be about the same warmth. in windy and/or damp conditions, the denali should perform better.

Perfect Jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I love this jacket. I purchased a medium. I like to have a bit more room in jackets, so I decided to go one size up from my regular sizing. The fit is perfect, I can move around without feeling constricted. The fleece is thick and warm and keeps out any windchill, and so far it has washed well. I couldn't be happier with my North Face jacket! I have worn it almost every day since getting it in the mail. I love love love this jacket and would recommend it to anyone who is thinking about getting one!

Just a great classic fleece to have in your wardrobe for all sorts of conditions.

I'm torn between a Denali and a Windwall......

Posted on

I'm torn between a Denali and a Windwall... I live in Texas (it's summer 3 seasons a year), but I'm currently splitting my time 50/50 in Utah where it snows in April! Recommendations?

Responded on

The Windwall 1 has a fleece weight of 100, while the Denali is 300. I own the male version of an older Windwall, as well as tried on the Denali, and the Denali is warmer and heavier. I would definitely go with the Denali.A much more useful jacket.

Personal experience - The Windwall's keep warm range is around 45-60 degrees F, while I'd say the Denali is good for 30-50 degrees F.

Responded on

The Denali is going to be warmer and heavier and won't breath quite as well as the Windfall. Are you looking for a midlayer to wear in UT as well as a "winter" jacket to wear in TX? I would go with the Denali unless you plan on having a heavier jacket to go over it during the winter in UT. I don't think you could go wrong with either. The Windfall looks a bit better though.

*Edited - Thank you Eli. I knew the Denali was 300 and the Windfall was 100, I just had the names switched.

Responded on

as matt said, it really depends on what you use it for. x country skiing is one thing, window shopping is another. yes it snows in utah in april, but mostly up in the mountains. and if you're up there after an april snow on a sunny day, you would be very toasty indeed. so if you're spending summers in UT and winters in TX, i would suggest the windwall. but if you are a cold person in general, probably the denali. in either case, you should get a hard shell as well storms.
