Everyone worries about the rain or snow when they head out to play, but the wind, well the wind can turn a warm day cold in a hurry. Put an end to wind with The North Face Men's Cipher Hybrid Jacket. Stretchy, breathable softshell material blocks the heat-robbing wind, moves with you as you hike or run and easily layers under or over another piece of gear. What more do you really need?

  • Softshell panel material has a slight stretch and has a wind-blocking rating of 10CFM on the underarm, side and hood panels
  • Fully adjustable, attached hood has a stretchy elastic-bound edge to seal around your hat or helmet
  • Alpine pockets are positioned so they're accessible even with a climbing harness or backpack on
  • Molded cuff tabs lock down the cuffs to keep drafts from whipping into your jacket

Nice Jacket

  • Familiarity:I returned this product before using it

I tried this on because it was recommended to me but I didn't care for it too much. I don't remember much about it since I tried on a lot of different TNF jackets that day, but I do remember wishing it had more pockets.

Great jacket for high levels of activity.

I have an earlier version of this jacket but i noticed the new version while on holliday in the french alps.

So, the following applies to both jackets. Firstly, they are hybrid jackets, part of the area of the jacket is made from a soft to the touch membrane fabric called windstopper. Although not rustly this fabric is basically goretex with fleecy inside and soft fabric outside. The side pannels are a thin stretchy polyester/elastane blend which provide the vast majority of breathability. These thin areas of fabric also create the main limitation to the jacket: they are not waterproof unlike the windstopper zones and in high winds like you get in the scottish cairngorms >40mph winds, you loose to much body heat if it is cold. There are large front zips which open into mesh back pockets--these are basically used by me as pit zips when i`m working hard. I mainly use this as an everyday and cycling jacket. It is an ideal cycling jacket because the main piece of windstopper fabric is on the front and even in heavy rain you dont need waterproof fabric at your sides when cycling. The hood will soak through in heavy rain so it's not perfect but for a casual jacket it is such a good feature to have and really adds to the jackets range.

The only design fault ive noticed in my version of the jacket is that windstopper fabric goes 3/4 the way down the sleeves and starts just bellow the shoulder. I see they have changed that in the new version. The other difference with this new version is the windstopper fabric is a different specification and uses a lighter weight face fabric. I think this means you will have a more packable but also more specifically activewear rather than hiking bit of kit than i do.

i love this jacket......quickly DRY when wet......when it's SUNNY well ventillated 'coz of the SOFTSHELL.....the WINDSTOPPER works cannot determined the weather here in HAWAII.......this jacket BEST suited for me.....

Hi Accepting that it's primary purpose...

Accepting that it's primary purpose is 'windstopping' how does it rate in relation to showers and rain - i.e. how much can it take before it's 'wet' and how quickly will it dry

      Many Thanks
