Great Boots, Great Price!
I've had these snow boots for 3 years now. Living right at the base of the the enchantments, I often have several feet of snow around my house! Paired up with some gators, these boots have never failed to keep my feet warm and dry!
Looks good but I am returning it.
Looks good and the quality of sole seems to be awesome. Also it feels like your feet are sliding forward which makes uncomfy.
I am returning it because it is too small.
I usually wears in between 81/2 and 9 so I ordered 91/2. What a mistake. It is too tight.
I need at least one size up.
HOw is it possible that some reviews on here says it runs true size? You need at least one size up to be safe.
I am not too happy about paying the return shipping charge either.
The North Face Chilkats
Purchased for my husband and he loves them! They are very warm, lightweight and good looking. The only problem is they are so stiff around the ankle it has been a challenge breaking them in. After wearing them a few times it is getting much better. Definitely purchase yours in a half to full size larger than you typically do.
I bought these boots about three years ago for general use in the winter. I live in New England, and needed a warm boot with good tread for snow and ice.
These boots are definitely warm (almost too warm), and the treads are beefy. Great boot in the snow.
However, through normal use, the rubber upper section has now split apart from the lower section. These boots were not something I wear all the time, usually just when there is a bunch of snow on the ground...and mostly for just walking to and from the car as well as pre and post ski sessions. No crazy trekking, backpacking or even mild snowshoeing.
I have heard of others with similar problems with their chiilkats. I read that someone had this same thing happen, after using the boots for only a few days and then having them in storage for a few years.
IMO, these boots are not quality construction that is built to last. I guess that is why they aren't super expensive. You get what you pay for in this instance.
These Kats are Chillin'
Without a doubt, the best winter boot I've ever put on my feet. They are so comfy and warm, and sooo waterproof. And they can chew through anything. They are like Hummers for your feet. Awesome. I should have listened to the other reviewers, as they do run a size small. I had tried on a friend's pair, and his size 12s fit me perfectly, so I thought they would be true to size. But the larger size (13) was sold out, so I had to get them from somewhere else. But backcountry.com customer service was great with the return. Order these early, like in October or November. If you wait til Dec or Jan, they are gone, gone, gone.
They are great, love them...
They are great love them...
Cuts your ankles
I bought the Chilcats in size 13 and the boots themselves are nice quality, but they dig in to the sides of your ankle and shin area. I returned two different pairs, because I thought the first pair was defective. If you go to the North Face website, and read reviews on this boot, out of 16 reviews, at least 4 people report the same problem. I ordered a pair of the slip-on version, hoping that the problem will go away. Should get them by tonight.
Also, I agree with these not being 100% waterproof. After shoveling snow for an hour, boots are a bit wet inside. No wetness on my socks either. Cant really figure where it would be coming from, because these boots appear to be pretty solid. Maybe I just got a few lemons. Well, they say that the third time is the charm...
Comfortable, flexible, warm and nice looking. Should last me for years.
Great Boots! Great Looking, TOO!!!
Bought these for my husband to wear in the snow and they are awesome! Waterproof, warm, and stylish. They don't look like 'snow/winter weather' boots.
You must have wool or synthetic wool socks for them, though. These boots get HOT and your feet will SWEAT!
Very perfect for freezing, snowy weather. Not so much for warm/mild for fashion
Recommend ... On a sale price
Cuts a bit high on the lower calf. Good idea to go a half size up on the fit. Have yet to put them to the test after a large snowfall.
Boots were great quality and looked good but they were really, really tight on my foot had to sell them. Would recommend them if you have a narrow foot really liked them wish they would have fit.
Order one full size up
Definitely go one full size up. With all the insulation & padding, plus the fact that all North Face footwear runs a 1/2 size small...I needed to go with a size 11 instead of a size 10. Other than the sizing issue, this is one truly comfortable & warm pair of boots...stylin' looks too. Living in Vermont...these are a necessary part of ones everyday outdoor gear.
The best boots!
I bought them for my boy friend, and he loves them!!!

The right boot for the snow
I have worn these boots for about a week, and I am impressed so far. I normally wear a 10.0 and ordered a 10.5 based on the reviews here on Back Country. I dont regret the decision to go 1/2 a size up since they fit just about right especially since I have wide feet. They have worked great so far in the winter weather of Northern Japan. My one gripe is that the upper loop for the laces should have been metal instead of plastic, I think that is a potential point of failure. Style wise, they also look really nice with a pair of jeans. Overall, I am very pleased with the purchase and I hope they last.
I bought this pair of boots for the winter hoping that I had finally found a good quality, and warm boot. I have had my far share of bad boots. These Chilkats are by far the best boots I have ever owned. Not only are they water proof and have kept my feet dry but for once my feet have actually been hot while hiking or standing in the snow. They are a great boot for stomping around in all types of snow and great for short hikes. I did 10 miles hike in them in snowshoes, my feet stayed warm and dry but there was not as much support as I would have like for that long of a hike, but still did there job. I would defiantly recommend these boots for any one looking to keep their feet warm and dry in the winter. Despite a few claims that they are not water proof out there. They may not be 100% water proof if you stand in a river, but few boots are.
Try again next weekend or not?
I took this new boot to So. Cal. Big Bear blizzard snow trip.
A very warm and good looking boot but it had a pea size grain inside the tong of the boot.
It was right under the eyelet on my right foot and it made my hair stand up like tooth ache.
Finally loosened the lace but sacrificed the fit and made into clogs.
The boot traction worked well during the day but it did not grip much as the sun went down.
Dont size up
These boots are super warm, have excellent traction on ice, and are water proof (at least so far). I had to return the size 13 since I wear a 12. I have seen recommendations for sizing up, but the 12's fit me perfectly. Dont forget these are not the most stylish since they look big when you have them on, but they function great!
Theese boots are great. So warm, so comfy, so stylish... I love the north face!
best boots for the $$$
Got the mud pack/orange color. Super warm & cozy!!! I wore my low-cut thin socks because the boots are so warm (weather was 20-30's. Seem very durrable & look like they will last. Not a boot than you want to hike more than 10 miles in, but PERFECT for around town, light hikes, & CAMPING. Very dry & amazingly grippy on ice. For under 100 bucks i've yet to see any other boots that can compare. I wear a 12 running shoe & a 13 fits.
