Wrap yourself in The North Face Women’s Caroline Down Coat before you head out to weather the bitter cold. The Caroline hits at or just above the knee so you have a warm cushion when you sit down on a cold city bench. The jacket’s plush 600-fill goose down keeps your core temperature in check and the adjustable belt at waist cinches for a more feminine cut. Sleeky shiny fabric gives this puffy a unique modern look, and you can heat up your chilly fingers in its two front hand-pockets.

Warm and cool!

Super light weight yet supremely warm. The belt is a bit of genius in that it never needs to be done up, it's secured to either side of the zipper and stays in position to keep you warm without drafts. And it's the coolest looking parka I've found!

Bought the L and XL and decided to return the L since I tend to wear bulkier clothes in winter. LOVE IT. It is the perfect length (I was concerned b/c I'm only 5' 4"), the belt can adjust giving you a custom fit and it is not near as bulky as it appears online but is super warm. The zipper alternately zips up from the bottom, giving you some additional flexibility with freedom of movement and fit.

stylish but REALLY needs a hood

I purchased this in silver and the Women's Artic Parka in blue. As much as I WANT to love this one, it doesn't stack up well. The coat is in DIRE need of a hood and the cut is a bit too slim...I'm hippy and should have gone up a size. I am a D cup and I feel the zipper gets stuck a bit in the chest area. Like I said, VERY stylish and if you're slim you may have better luck with the fit. All this being said, I will wear it for a cold night out in NYC.

Just wondering if this coat is waterproof?...

Just wondering if this coat is waterproof? I am looking for one to wear in Canda winter. Would this be warm enough? Is this a jacket that can be folded up quite small and put into a small bag like some of them can? If it doesn't which coat would you recommend to get that is waterproof, rolls up or folds up into small bag that is small and is good for Canada winter?

        Victoria,

This coat is not 100% waterproof, but it is a very well insulated puffy jacket and will be lightweight and compressible(600-fill down has a very, very high warmth-to-weight ratio). It won't fold into an itty-bitty space like some can, but is much more compressible than other jackets with comparable insulation. This jacket will do very well in blistering wind, freezing temperatures and light snow or rain, but no blizzards or downpours. Down insluation will eventually break down as it gets wet (this takes years) and won't keep you as warm as synthetic down when it does get soaked. I have an 800-fill down and LOVE IT, and have an extra rain layer for when the weather gets particularly nasty.

The easy answer is to buy two coats, one that is super warm and one that keeps you super dry, and alternate as necessary. Or, you can go the route of the technical softshell:

These will be more waterproof and offer some insulation, though not as much as down.

        Happy trails!

does anyone own the caroline parka is graphite grey? i am considering it but would love to know what you think about the color...everyone owns a black parka so trying something different but don't want buyer's remorse for i always go with black.

Hey Michelle...my good buddy has the TNF Diez jacket in Graphite Grey, and since you're just asking for personal opinions, here is mine. It looks like a trash bag. Sorry, but it's wrinkly and has that classic greenish-black "hefty bag" look. Don't know how else to say it, and I apologize to all those who have one, but that's my take. The shell fabric on this is probably less calendared and shiny, but I'm just not a fan...
