Description

If you caribout staying warm, wear this down jacket.

When it comes to staying warm in freezing temperatures and harsh climates, caribou seem to have it pretty figured out. The North Face took a cue from these majestic land-mammals when designing the Men’s Caribou Down Jacket. A water-repellent coat and lots of insulation do the trick for the reindeer-of-the-tundra, and guess what? They work here, too. The North Face started with a waterproof breathable HyVent 2L shell, sealed the seams, and added 500-fill goose down insulation to melt the freezingness before it reaches your soft, fragile body. Tons of stash space gives you an advantage over the pocketless beasts of the Arctic.

How does this jacket compare to the Sub Zero SL™ Hooded Jacket? I'm looking for a very warm jacket to wear around town. The warmer, the better.

Hi there, this will be my first North Face purchase. I have heard nothing but great things. I was in a store and tried on a "Ice Down" in a small, which fit great but I didn't buy it because my fiancee talked me out it! Now I'm wishing I had purchased it because I can't find it anywhere (small/new taupe). After many weeks of research I am considering the "Caribou" or "Hope Tri climate", I am really leaning towards the "Caribou". I live in Philadelphia (winters aren't too harsh) and would be wearing it casually while commuting.
Any thoughts?? I am 5'7, 160ibs,and like things to fit...but not too tight!
Thanks

Tough winter tested

I've lived in Minnesota for 30 years. Best winter jacket ever, especially on those 20 below wind chill days - both being outside or getting in the frozen car. Pockets are nicely designed with the up zippers. And overall it is very snug - but not as balloon-y as other down jackets. Definetely a keeper....

Ok another ? on sz.
I read the below Q&A on sizes. Some of NF I wear a Med, I am 5'10" 145lbs. The guys below say they are wearing a Med and are a little bigger. Would the small be too constrictive on this? Should I get a Med to be safe for a few years of use and able to put some layers underneath if needed? If warm enough on own though, I don't like loose jackets. Thanks for any help. Also anyone have the bittersweet brown? Do you like it? Is it pretty dark brown? My monitor shows it a little lighter than the black.

Responded on

I would stick to medium, for layering up,I think the arms in a small would not be long enough....

To those who own this, are the arms insulated well also, or is it pretty thin compared to rest of jacket?

Responded on

Yes the arms are insulated....

Nice Coat

I brought this coat for my husband as a surprise so he can wear everywhere, especially at work, and he loved it. The coat and hood keep him very warm. He has received so many compliments from people. Now they want to buy and wear a Northface coat.

I was curious where the jacket falls. I realize it is not parka length, but the Hawthorne I tried on recently seemed to be a bit short. I need something to withstand upsate NY winters w/ot the bulkiness of a parka.

Responded on

This jacket lists the exact same length as the Hawthorne. For a longer down jacket in TNF line with a similar look, check out the MCMURDO PARKA which is 5 in longer. Their other offerings are all around 30 in length or less.

Responded on

Check out the Mountain Hardwear Downtown jacket! Far superior to this product, warmer , more streamlined, warmer and longer at 33 inches.

I am 5'10" / 165# / 15.5" neck / 35" sleeve / 41" chest / 33" waist. Would a medium fit?

Responded on

Yes. I'm 6'/175#/15.5" neck/35" sleeve/40" chest/32" waist and the medium is a great fit on me.

Responded on

I can't believe Kretzky above said his sleeve is 35 inch and he wears a medium. Wouldn't it be too short for you? The size chart for medium sleeve is 33.5 inch. Unless this jacket runs really big, otherwise for someone 35 inch sleeve should not be able to fit in a medium.

Hi, I am looking to buy my first North Face Jacket but I am not sure about which size to choose. I have tried on my friends North Face Ice Jacket(Medium) and it fits good except at the hand opening you can only see my fingers but the jacket is very warm and cozy. It looks funny on me though because it's quite big in a puffy way, so I am wondering if this is anything like the Ice Jacket and what size should I get if I do get this Caribou Jacket? S or M? I'm about 5'8 and 155lbs. Suggestions will be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Responded on

Medium!

I am 5'9 157 to 162 and I run a medium....

Yes please may I have another

Great winter coat, probably not for Mt. everest but not as bulky, I don't feel like George Costansa in a wine shop. As always backcountry is the best. As is Northface

Responded on

Defenitely runs small....tight in the shoulders...

does the hood remove. I've got a medium nuptse what about sizing on the caribou

Responded on

The hood is fixed on this jacket. It runs a little larger than the Nuptse, but I probably wouldn't downsize because it is more of a lifestyle type of jacket-
