Description

Class, trail, overnight; the Borealis does it all.

One of the most proven crossover daypacks on the market, The North Face Borealis Backpack suits your needs whether you're heading to class or on an overnight adventure. The North Face built this thing with ballistics nylon that takes the beatings you'll dish out in your everyday, or not-so-everyday adventures. The large main compartment easily carries your whole mess of textbooks or enough beer to turn a night of sitting on the beach watching the northern lights into a real party. A comfortably padded air-mesh back panel and FlexVent injection-molded shoulder straps keep you feeling good even if you're carrying quite the load. It's nice to get away from technology for a while, but a variable-sized laptop sleeve keeps it safe when you do need it.

For every campus warrior.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is a decent backpack. I purchased it for the laptop sleeve, but that is the only great feature. Everything else is actually pretty normal and boring.

If you carry more than two books and your laptop the backpack gets very tight. It is surprisingly deep for how small it feels in width.

The elastic on the front is pretty weak and basically worthless. You cannot safely store a skateboard with the cord. Another problem with the bag is that the side pockets are a tight fit for large water bottles. Sliding in a Nalgene or a smoothie in a mason jar is a more difficult task than it should be. Small water bottles fit fine, but the large ones outdoor junkies and sorority sisters carry are difficult to slide in.

This is a fine backpack, but there are many different backpacks that have much better features and better methods of storage.

Good student & computer pack

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The laptop storage sleeve has nice protective padding and will accommodate up to a 15" laptop with no problem.

The water bottle holders on the outside hold bottles securely (unlike some similar packs). There is a good selection of pockets and spaces for pens, calculators, keys, and books. I like the compression straps, the sternum strap, and non-removable waist belt. The mesh padding helps keep your back dry. The zippers are nice and beefy.
