Is the Safety Orange model no longer being sold?

Responded on

Hello Jeffrey Dotson,

Thanks for your question.

The safety orange color is an older color that TNF manufactured. It has since been discontinued for their 2014 line.

I hope this helps.

Can the front bungee cord hold a bike helmet?

Responded on

Probably it could in some fashion... but it will be a GIANT pain to get it in there. I would think you might be better off clipping the helmet strap through the bungees and letting it flop around a bit.

Responded on

Pranay,
I checked with TNF and they do not recommend using the bungees for a bike helmet as the space will be too narrow for most models. The intended use is for securing articles of clothing and other ancillaries that you will want easy access to in cases of quickly changing weather.

It's great

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I'm a freshman in high school and it's overall pretty good. It is a tight squeeze, as I am able to fit about one 1 inch binder and 2 1.5 inch binders. I also have about 1 inch in notebooks. It is a little smaller than a jansport, but it still manages to hold everything I need. Supreme support, looks a little boxy, but hopefully it'll round out later on. Feels like durable material, and I hope it lasts me all my 4 years in high school, unlike my jansport. The laptop sleeve feels great and I usually slip in a composition notebook to save room, since the laptop sleeve does have padding at the bottom. The padding causes there to be less room but hey, if you put something in the laptop sleeve, it all works out. If you're a student with like 6-7 inches of binders/notebooks, I advise you to get a different once since this one can get a little...tight. (: The organization pockets are a plus, but as the main compartment gets fuller, the organizational pockets become smaller. However, it's a great backpack overall.

GREAT review Elemenope!! It told me just what I needed to know. My daughter has a large binder like 3in and other notebooks.

Good student & computer pack

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The laptop storage sleeve has nice protective padding and will accommodate up to a 15" laptop with no problem.

The water bottle holders on the outside hold bottles securely (unlike some similar packs). There is a good selection of pockets and spaces for pens, calculators, keys, and books. I like the compression straps, the sternum strap, and non-removable waist belt. The mesh padding helps keep your back dry. The zippers are nice and beefy.

Identical to TNF Borealis (item# TNF7990) which sports a front mesh pocket.

Great Backpack!

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift, but have feedback to share

After looking at different backpacks online and reading reviews EVERYWHERE I chose the North Face Borealis. It is exactly as described, nicely made, very cushiony straps, and good organization inside. My son likes that he can wad his hoodie up on the exterior bungie cord when it warms up. And bonus point was the exact color we wanted--Coffee--was on sale! The only downside is that it is a little tighter squeeze inside, but he still manages to squeeze in 4 binders and several folders plus a very large sketchpad and many art supplies.

Love this pack for school!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This pack holds everything for me! School books, binders and appreciate the separate laptop pocket! You are able to organize everything you need to kick ass and take names in class. On the weekends, you can even ditch the school books and take this up for a hike.

Great for high school or college

Bought this backpack for my high school daughter and my daughter who is a freshman in college. They both love it. So much more comfortable and no more back pain when its really full. Great compartment for a lap top. Very happy with this purchase.

Too small

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

The pack is a great pack. Designed well. I had my previous boeralis for 12 years and finally needed to get a new because the inside lining was shedding. This pack is way too small for what I was looking for. I thought it was bigger then what is. So i had to return it for a bigger pack with more storage space. Seems like it would be great for a student...not hiking or trekking.

Amazingly comfortable

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I purchased this pack recently to replace a TNF Mentor I bought a few years ago. I was amazed at how much more comfortable this pack is compared to the former one. The shoulder straps conform very well to my broad frame, the pack rests comfortably against my back and has plenty of room to hold my necessary gear while traveling.

I was also pleased to see that they now include padding at the bottom of the computer compartment. My biggest complaint about my former TNF pack was the lack of this feature. Since I use this pack to carry my laptop and tablet (in addition to the rest of my gear), I wanted to make sure that the pack would protect them.

TNF got it right with this pack and I definitely recommend it.
