The North Face Base Camp Travel Canister's ultra-durable TPE fabric withstands the abuse of a month-long roadtrip or five-day approach to the base of a mountain. Its compact size works great for stashing those fragile items that you don't want to cram into your giant duffel. Load up The North Face Base Camp Travel Canister, use the external daisy chains to secure it to your burro, and relax knowing that your gear will get there in once piece.
Bottom Line: The North Face Base Camp Travel Canister—just like a big, burly duffel bag (except a bit smaller).
I accidentally ordered this and was wondering what to do with it because it was so much smaller than I expected. Turns out it's a great shaving kit- perfect size. It has a top pocket that's perfect for stashing your passport discretely on international trips. Plus, it's stylish as far as bathroom kits go (if you're worried about that type of thing).
I use one for a toiletry bag and it suits the purpose quite well. Nothing more durable then the "basecamp" and the daisy loops mean you can clip it to the inside of the tent!

I use this bag (green, with a white electrical tape corss on the lid) for my expedition medkit.
It's a great size for small and mismathced items. The closure - while nowhere near submersion-proof - will keep out all the rain you like: a partially-taped zip sits under a flange on the lid. Inside, there's a lid pocket and two side pockets. I've found that this configuration is great for keeping small tools, bandages &c secure while leaving the larger and bulkier items (splingting supplies, gauze, B/P cuff) in the middle. It could - perhaps - do with a few more pockets, but that complaint is mainly due to my use.
The handles are good, sturdy and the right length. The shoulder strap allows the bag to be worn at the hips or accross the back. The daisy-chain is useful not only for attaching this to other bags, but for attaching small pieces of kit to the outside, or hanging the bag near the top of a pack without loosing it.
Overall, this is a very useful little bag, which should be able to handle whatever you put inside it, and whatever you throw at it, even in wet conditions.
I purchased the The North Face's "Base Camp Travel Canister for use as a first aid kit. It holds all my first aid items, is extremely durable and resists water. My only concerns was when I found a tiny hole in the bag, however, that problem was easily solved by sealing it with seam sealer. I think that was either a defect, or a tweezer or some sharp object penetrated the Thermoplastic Elastomer material (TPE), which I thought was indestructible.
has anyone seen the old version of this it kind of looked like a bouldering chalk bucket made of vinyl? I saw it once at a TNF outlet and have been kicking myself ever since for not getting it.
I love this bag! It has 4 pockets one of them is zippered (the one on the lid). The material is tougher than nails. Would recommend it to any one. One of The North Faces better products!
My wife calls this her little pink bag, but when she gets done stuffing it full of her bathroom gear it sure does not feel little. She does not make a trip without it and it has enough room to carry all over her essentials.
In design, this is a toiletry/shaving bag on steroids. If only used for that, the heavy material and construction might be overkill. (But you'll never need another one in your life; and these are very washable.) They are excellent for keeping small items together when packing the larger base camp duffel for trips the mountains. I got 4 colors. One as a shaving kit/personal bag, one for first aid supplies, one for electronic.computer-related. One for camera related. They are indestructible. They are lock-able. And they are color-coded. I know which one to grab; I can send a Sherpa off to fetch a bag, knowing he'll bring the right one.
I bought two of these, a few months apart. One for my toothbrush, toothpaste, contact lens stuff, comb, and stuff and the other i use to keep small items from roaming around my pack- flashlight, batteries, knife.... Its a little bigger than a nalgene bottle.
I accidentally ordered this and was wondering what to do with it because it was so much smaller than I expected. Turns out it's a great shaving kit- more...
