Just alright

I wanted to buy something that I haven't seen most people carrying. Therefore, I was super excited to use this backpack since I haven't seen anyone with it! But the more and more I used it, the more and more I've come to realize that the bag is rather too small and not functional. I use it as a book bag however it can fit my laptop, a 400 page book and maybe squeeze in binder. In that case, it gets really stiff, in which it already is so it just adds to the stiffness and it feels awful carrying that much around, so I try to just carry my binder and laptop, maybe if I really need my book hold it in my hand. It also gets markings on the front of the bag easily. I've had my bag for less than 5 months and it has markings that it seems like i've been carrying it for two years. I wouldn't buy this again. Maybe buy a jester or something.

    Stiff and rubbery.

    • Familiarity:I returned this product before using it

Well made and I'm sure the zippers will be durable and hold up well. But I disliked the rubbery feel and it is too stiff. It would be great for someone else. I'm a bit small and it is too long and hit the back of my head.

    Good for school and hiking

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times

I've used this backpack both for going to school and during hikes. It won't fit a lot since it's a lot smaller than an 1830 cu in backpack, but it does fit my 13 inch Macbook Pro, 2 books, 1 notebook, 1 folder very comfortably. It doesn't feel heavy on my back because of the padding. During hikes, it's perfect. I think the fabric is water resistant because when it rained a little bit my clothes inside were still dry. I love that there are two side pockets for water bottles. Overall, if you don't have a lot of stuff/books/notebooks to bring, this is a good daypack!

Is this fabric waterproof or water resistant?

None of my Basecamp duffels have ever leaked through the fabric, so I would go so far as to call that part of it "waterproof", but where you'll get water penetration is in the zippers, stitching and seams. Michael is right- if you need complete water protection, you'll need to cover the pack. Knowing the material, I can tell you that this is going to be a very stiff pack for quite some time. Also, bear in mind, depending on what you plan to use it for, 1280 cubic inches is a pretty small pack.
