Ideally suited for city streets and the occasional trip to the mountain, the work-boot style The North Face Men's Ballard 6 Boot provides warmth, protection from wetness, and a tough-as-nails aesthetic. Burly leather uppers and thick rubber soles armor your feet against winter hazards, and small details like IcePick lugs and rustproof metal hardware complete the package.

  • Waterproof, full-grain leather upper is tough as nails and treated to keep your feet dry as a bone
  • 200g PrimaLoft Eco insulation provides warmth without unnecessary weight or unwieldy bulkiness
  • Compression-molded Northotic footbed has partially recycled Poron inserts for comfort, breathability, and cushioning
  • Blown rubber sidewall and perimeter lugs reduce outsole weight and add to durability
  • TNF Winter Grip rubber outsole has temperature-sensitive IcePick lugs that harden for additional traction when the mercury drops

i have no idea what happened to this company - used to be so great at one point
these boots were toastie / warm and wonderful, and at around month 13 (after probably about as many wears) they started feeling damp/leaky on the inside
problem is, the warranty is for 12months
and when i reached out to them i got no response
i will probably never buy anything from them again
p.s. the sole is incredible, especially in icy conditions, and has great grip - i'll give them that, but def not much use if not fully waterproof

Great Boots.

Had I known then, I would have stocked up on these boots. They need to return to production.

Warm, Grippy, Stylish

A really great everyday winter boot. From loading my snowmobile, to going out on the town when there is snow and slop on the ground, they fit great, look good and most importantly keep my feet warm and comfortable through the chilly months.

nice boot

Very nice casual boot, had to buy a half size larger from 11.5 - size 12 since the 11.5 was not available. The boot fits just right especially with a thicker sock in the winter.

    Better than I expected!

I mostly bought these boots cause they look great. I was skeptical about the material the sole was made out of, and how long it would last. after wearing them all winter, they still feel like new as far as fit goes. haven't stretched out, the sole is still in great shape. They are just warm enough for me, and the waterproofing seems to do well.

I bought the brown pair in the same size I wear normal shoes.

    Nice casual warm boot.

I wanted an insulated boot for casual wear in the winter that could handle ice and snow. This boot has great traction and keeps my feet warm, but not too warm.

    Absolutely great boots!

Boots arrived and I immediately put them to the snowy, ice test of Chicago's weather. They are warm, comfortable, waterproof and really grip the sidewalk. The insulated soft lining at the top of the boot helps reduce break in time around the ankles, and I didn't notice any pressure points to work out either. To me, they fit very true to size - I'm an 11.5 US. I have a narrow foot, so perhaps those with a wider foot may find them a bit snug, also if your feet sweat, these may not be the boots for you as they are well insulated and warm. I should mention however, that I wear med-thick Wigwam hiking socks. Highly recommend these boots...oh, they also look really cool - even better than the photo. They have a nice, rich worn in look to them.

Anyone have experience with these on icy...

Anyone have experience with these on icy surfaces...? I just moved to Chicago from California and spend a lot of time walking the city. Looking for something warm, waterproof and good on ice - an older pair of Timberlands that I have actually do worse on ice vs. tennis shoes when the tread fills with snow....wondering if the "ice pick" sole on this boot is actually noticeable? Thanks!

I actually grew up across the water from Chicago over there in the Grand Rapids area so I have an idea of what you are going through. I give these boots my stamp of approval for Midwest climates and even though these will not guarantee 100 % traction 100% of the time it will make you better off. If you checked out the detailed photos of the sole you will notice the red/brown Ice-pick outsoles. Those points in the outsole actually stiffen up in colder temps and improve your traction when on ice or hardpacked snow.

Now you might also want to check out some micro spikes for those days where you just can't seem to stay off your butt.

Outstanding, thank you for the feedback. Ordered them yesterday and already got a tracking email they'll be here tomorrow. Also the micro spikes might fit the bill, since I can't stay still with all this city has to offer. Thanks again...

Thanks Jeff! Boots arrived today - probably the most comfortable pair out of the box I've ever owned. Pretty dry tonight, but super grippy on the streets and very warm. Good purchase...

    very convenient and warm

Very convenient, warm, moisture-proof boots, quite wide in a sock, at low temperatures it didn't happen to test yet, but at - 5C very warmly, I think that with a warm sock it will be quite possible to use and at - 30C, for my big foot 31sm 13 size appeared just.

I ask to excuse for my English :)

    Comfortable boot

These are exceptionally comfortable boots that I've been able to wear without any break in period. I went a half size larger and have had no problems with rubbing or tightness. Very quiet when walking around indoors or out. Haven't tested them too much in extreme conditions, so I will try and update after a trip to Ontario in a few weeks. So far I'm very pleased with them.

    Sweet boot!

Got this boot mainly for a warmer boot to sit through Utah football games in the cold and wet, but ended up using them for much more.

First off, they are nice and warm, for me personally they aren't too warm for sitting inside by the fire, but also not too cold for sitting outside sub freezing, basically the folklore equivalent to goldilocks hanging back in baby bears seat eating the kids porridge. Definitely not the boot I was choosing to go on long hikes or anything like that, more just around town with a bit of mountain style.

I ended up needing them for an elk hunt last weekend and they outperformed my expectations. A very versatile boot that were able to handle just about anything I needed to do with them. For those who have never been elk hunting it's sorta all over the place, riding in trucks or ATV's for a couple hours, then hiking for a couple more tracking stuff down over whatever hills or rocks you need to get over. Basically you need the most versatile and tough gear to handle everything. These had the grip, durability, and waterproofing (it was raining all weekend) I needed to get the job done.

My only complaint is the insole, not very supportive at all. Most insoles that come in boots won't be though, I grabbed some custom insoles I had for my ski boots and threw them in there, but if you don't have custom ones I'd grab some nice supportive insoles to throw in these so your arches aren't screaming at the end of the day.

Would I be able to wear these indoors...

Would I be able to wear these indoors through a work day and not have my feet sweating too much?

    Hey Sam,

Since these are insulated they will definitely be warmer than most shoes, the sweat factor depends on your personal feet, if you scroll down and read Matt's review he mentions that a little bit.

The 200g insulation isn't super thick/warm so you should be ok in most situations, as long as the indoor place you work keeps the room at a reasonable temperature.

    The Ballard 6 boot

These boots look nice on the interweb and in person. Its another story the first time you wear them (ouch!!!!!!!!!!!) They hurt like hell for the first three miles. Real tite on the ankles,i loosend them up a bit and they were better. They will get more comfortable with time. I dont plan on any more North face boots

      good looking and comfy

      • Gender:Male

These are great and I think look much better in person than they do in the picture. I like to be as stylish as I can while still having the best functioning gear and clothing and these boots do just that. Do yourself a favor and pick them up if you are looking for a good looking, but tough work boot.

      Perfect casual boot

      • Familiarity:I've used it several times

I tried a pair of these on in a local store this summer and loved them, went home and ordered them on here ($30 cheaper). For me, I have to only wear them when it's really cold as my feet sweat a lot, even in flip flops lol. Now that the temps have dropped where I live, these boots are keeping my feet nice and toasty. I have also used them on light hiking trails and the grip is amazing! Great boot for a winter hike then a pint at the pub after, without looking like you just treked all

i bought these boots for my super sporty and fashion conscious best friend for christmas. i have never seen him take a pair of shoes like this. from gallery openings, to hiking in the mountains, to snowy streets. they have become his go-to. comfortable, warm when necessary, and dry in the snow. he says there were his best 2012 score and i say they look hot for a sporty boot.
