Designed to fend off the elements without restricting your movement, The North Face Men’s Astor Softshell Jacket is a go-to shell for long days at the resort or in the backcountry. The waterproof breathable HyVent Apex ClimateBlock fabric provides ample stretch without letting a drop of moisture in, and the adjustable hood and powder skirt seal off the jacket from waist-deep pow shots. The North Face also added tons of pockets for your winter essentials and a RECCO avalanche reflector for some additional in-bounds safety.
Bottom Line: Protective stretch for deep days of winter.

I own several tnf jackets, and this one is certainly top of the line. This is one of their first soft shell jackets with fully taped seams, which means it's waterproof and windproof but still moves freely and doesn't crackle like most hard shells. This jacket is loaded with almost every possible feature, definitely built for the gearhead. Plus it has some kind of micro polyester lining, not quite as warm as the apex bionic but very close. I wouldn't need another layer in temps around 40-50 if I wasn't moving around. The fit is a bit more relaxed with a slightly longer torso, but the arms are thankfully not too long like other tnf jackets. Overall a great stand alone jacket for all-weather activities, or an excellent winter jacket with layers. Well worth the spendy price tag, bells and whistles all the way!

This is the best looking and most effecient jacket I've ever owned. Its AWESOME. Perfect for all conditions. This is really cool tech gear. I have had over 10 north face jackets and this is the best.

Hi Robert. How warm is it? Is it just mainly an outer shell that you would still need to wear a fleece with? I am looking for a jacket that can be warm enough to not need a separate layer. Thanks.
