Description

Cool sophistication.

It can be tough to look elegant once January closes in and you're fighting sub-zero nastiness on your way to work. The North Face gives you the solution with the Women's Arctic Parka. Waterproof breathable HyVent nylon fabric and plush 550 fill goose down create a barrier between you and Old Man Winter, while the long cut and stylish removable faux fur maintain a sophisticated look so you don't look like you just climbed Everest.

Great Coat!

I bought the Mountian Hardwear Downtown Coat Dec 2011. I wore it for 1 season and the coat ripped on the outside seem of the pocket and down came pouring out. i wrote Backcountry.com ( not knowing there was a no questions asked return policy) and they were wonderful when I asked to exchange the coat. So now for the coat review...The coat is SOLID. Well put together. I pretty much walk my dog and go to the market in my coat and this coat will last me years. I almost knew I should have picked the North Face coat at first and I was upset I hadn't. it's very warm. Not sure if it's as warm as the mountian hardwear yet because it hasn't been that cold since I recieved the replacement coat. The Northface stays clean. The material is rugged. The down part on the inside keeps me warm (so far). I am xl right now and only had a choice of the Large coat, so I can't wait until next season when I am med-large again and this coat fits me correctly. It's very comfortable and cozy considering. I suggest ordering a size larger to accomodate a sweater or layers underneath. Overall: GREAT COAT!

WARM, COMFORTABLE, CUTE

This is the most warm and comfortable, everyday coat I have. It breaks the wind, it's cozy, the hood keeps you even warmer! I got my first one stolen at the yoga studio (yes, a yogi stole my coat!) and I had to replace it! It was that good!

I live in Copenhagen, Denmark where it's winter 8 months a year and cold and windy! I spend a lot of time outdoors on my bike or waiting for the train to get kids, groceries, work, etc. I'm 5'5" and 130 lbs. long torso. I'm deciding between the Arctic Parka and the Brooklyn Downs, any thoughts on either or whether I should order a S or an M? Tak from Copenhagen!

Keeps You Warm and Looks Good

Great coat, keeps me WARM in the sub-zero winter. I love the down insulation. Zipper quality is evidence that this is designed as a streetwear coat, not a winter-sports coat. The coat is still made with great quality. Not much flair, which you can see from the photos.

Super warm and stylish!

Love it! Not only is the coat super warm, but I love the detailing.. it actually makes me feel slim, instead of like a marshmallow. I'm 5'10, 145lbs and the medium fit perfect.

Just what I was looking for

I wanted to get a longer warm coat that was good-looking enough to wear to work, but durable enough to walk the dog when it's stormy out, and this coat is it! I got it in the grey, and the fabric is very wind-, water- and dirt-repellent. My dog jumped on me when we were out in the snow/slush, and you can't see any dirt/salt marks. There are some nice smaller details, too - the soft interior of the pockets is nice, as is the way the fur zips off the hood (I had another similar jacket that had 12 buttons to remove the hood fur, and that was a pain).

I got the large and find the fit slightly puffy through my torso, though I also tried the medium and that was way too tight in the shoulders and waist (I'm 5'10", 160#), but it's not a deal breaker at all. I like the length, too - it comes to about 2/3 down my thigh - long enough for warm coverage, but not so long I feel like I'm trapped in a potato sack. The double zipper also makes for added mobility when necessary.

I don't think I've ever spent so much on a piece of clothing, but it's clear that this coat was a good investment - I have no doubt it will stand up for years, both in durability and fashion. I only wish I had bought it earlier in the season so I would have had more time to wear it this year! Maybe the groundhog was wrong and I'll get another month out of it before having to put it away til next winter.

Great buy!

Got this jacket for my mom, she loves it!

Awesome

Love this parka! Previously had North Face 700 fill coat with traditional puffy coat look, this is just as warm at 550 fill and very comfortable. This is a true to size fitted coat, so don't expect it to be super roomy. The only difference I can spot between this coat and the current season coat is the logo- this embroidery is black and the newer coat has white. I like the black better, feel like this is a great deal.

Great jacket

The jacket arrived within a few days just before I went to Berlin were it was rainy, snowy and cold but I wasn't thanks to my new jacket. I'm a small 5'6 and 120 lb perfect fit.

Thanks

I moved from Florida to Chicago this winter and even I'm warm in this jacket. It is fantastic while not looking too terribly puffy.

I'm 5'3, 117 lbs. I don't know what size to order. Anyone out there same height/weight that can suggest size?

Responded on

I am 5'3" 130... ordered a small and it fits OK, a little snug around my hips and butt, but I'll get used to it. The small will be good for you.

Responded on

I'm not at all the same size as you (I'm 5'9') but I will say that I initially ordered a large, tried it for a few weeks and then decided I'd be happier with the medium so I exchanged it. It was insanely easy and quick to exchange, honestly.

Super Warm

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I'm from North Carolina and I moved up to Canada this year, so I'm braving -30c temps for the first time. This jacket is wonderful. It keeps me warm, and downright toasty. I'm 5'4'' and 120lbs and the small fits me perfectly and goes down to just above my knees. I still have room to layer underneath. In wind, snow, ice, this jacket keeps me warm.

Holding up in Montreal!

The coat is great. I'm 5'3, 115 lbs so the coat in xs iis just above my knees. That leg coverage is vital. It's been as low as -17 degrees F and consistently below 0 F for the past week and I have barely been bothered. My face and toes keep me from staying out too long but the rest of me has no fear of 20 below in this thing. I actually remarked that it was so warm out the other day, and later realized that it was no more than 7 below. This coat is for an extremely cold winter. Probably good for Boston and up. The hood is a bit awkward, but otherwise looks pretty nice for what it is.

Warm and Cozy

It's been in the 20s here and this parka has done the job. It's kept me dry in rain and warm and cozy in some cold temps. Removable faux fur trim is nice. One of the reviews I had read prior to buying it said it wasn't that puffy, it's puffy. Don't be fooled. It's not George Costanza gortex jacket puffy, but it's got puff. I'd still recommend this jacket. It's down and it's warm and snuggly when you're out in the cold.

Does anyone know if the fur on the hood is removable? I love this jacket but not the fur

Responded on

The North Face website states:

"Detachable faux fur trim "

Responded on

it is but the entire hood is not

Fantastic coat....

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift, but have feedback to share

I bought this for my daughter for Xmas - we live in the Boston area and she loooooves this coat already. So warm, but not poofy and nicely tapered for a female figure. IN reply to the comment below...the coat does come in petite sizes I believe. But my daughter is 5'6", 110 lbs, and the Small fit perfectly.
