Pull on The North Face Men's Apex Randonee Pant, paste your skins on your skis, and head out for a day in the backcountry. This wind and water resistant pant provides a solid balance of weather protection and mobility for days spent cutting turns in powder. Get a perfect fit with the bult-in clip belt, and store your energy bars and cell phone in the hand and thigh pockets. A raised back waist gives you comfort and helps keep out snow, while the calf zip allows you to get a good fit over your AT or tele boots. The North Face built the Keprotec kickpatch with Kevlar to resist abrasion from boots and crampons.

Bottom Line: Free heel to untracked lines in the Randonee.

You can wear them to the bar!

With over a year of ski mountaineering these pants have held out in all types of conditions.

What I like is they are not skin tight like other ski touring pants.
So you can where them in town after a day of skiing and bagging summits.
I wish they had an elastic around the cuff to keep it tight around the boots to keep the snow out a little better.

Solid Softshell Pant

I have logged a lot of days on these pants and they have held up very well. I have found many softshell pants to be too heavy of a fabric for my taste, and these hit the mark with regards to keeping the fabric light. I can wear light long underwear on cold days, or not on warmer spring days, and have been able to stay comfortable. The kickpatch is a nice touch.

I've had 2 pairs of these in the past and loved them-However the new "model" has a back waist panel and is cut very thin--Had to send them back.

Same issue here as BillC, that said I couldnt find anything I liked better so I had to sew some webbing material into the waist band to prevent the plummerscrack effect.

Randonne vs trekking pants

By:
December 23, 2008

I would buy the cheaper they are the same with the exception of scuff guards on Randonne, and trek pants have boot covers inside.
As far as warmth depends how you layer and the person. I have worn 20f with sweats active and was fine.
