Before you set off on your next cold morning run or hike up Superior Peak,—grab The North Face Men’s Apex Pneumatic Jacket. Windy, drizzly conditions won’t slow you down thanks to the Apex’s wind-and water-resistant exterior. Plus, you can sprint and climb with unrestricted movement (and without overheating) due to the breathable, four-way stretch fabric. Stash your keys and ID in the zippered chest or hand pockets.
Bottom Line: A must for any cold-or cool-weather adventure.
This jacket is a perfect example of why buying gear online is discouraging. It looks good in the photo but it fits like a blind man designed it. There is nothing I can really say that is good about this jacket. The sleeves are about 8 inches to long, the torso length is made for someone no taller than 5 ft. and the fabric is itchy and uncomfortable. I am glad backcountry has great a return policy, because this would have been an extreme waste of money for me.

jdgs, Thanks for your question. The Apex Pneumatic is more of a spring weight softshell. I would go Apex Bionic if you are looking for a warmer, 3 season (Fall, Winter, Spring) softshell option. I hope this is helpful for you.
First of all I really do love this jacket, I received it 3 weeks ago. It fits snug but comfortable. The arms are a little long but when you bend your arm at the elbow they cover it completely so that's good in cool weather. I live in NC and this jacket is great for the 40ish degree weather we had a few weeks ago, holds up good in the wind and provides good protection from the light rain. Although it doesn't zip into my Gortex outer shell, i will still wear it under that when skiing as i like it more than my fleece. If you are looking for a good fall jacket run in or go to a football game in, this one is great.
I recently bought this jacket in XL and I love the fit. I am 6'5" 230lbs. I have somewhat of an "athletic fit" up top with long arms so sometimes I run into the problem with an XL being the right size for my torso but the sleeves are too short and then the XXL has perfect sleeves but it is too big in the torso area. Not the case with this jacket.
That being said, I am looking for a warmer softshell and picked up a Bionic in XL but the sleeves are too short. I am thinking I would like to go one step warmer than the Bionic which I believe would be the Chromium Thermal. Does anyone have any recomendations on a softshell equivalent to the warmth of the Chromium Thermal that will have similar fitment to the Pneumatic?
The Sentinel or the Kishtwar would be warmer and are in the summit series with an alpine fit (skinner chest, longer arms) which is what i have and fits me well. The Kishtwar is the only one in the XL from bc, though. Hope this helps!
Bought Pneumatic softshell and i love my gear. I looked many stores for this model and not sure why there aren't many colors and choices.. end up in ordering online at Backcountry.com and like the way it is. It can protect you from little to mild cold and is very comfortable. It fits well and feels like younger than what you are...:) I would definitely recommend this Gear.
David, it is wind and water resistant. It is a nice jacket for aerobic activities because it breathes well. But, if the weather is really nasty you will need a waterproof shell over it.
Very cool jacket, love the color (green and grey), but it fits small (order 1 size bigger than your usual TNF size). The sleeves are a bit longer than usual and the material is kind of like a wetsuit (stretchy and a bit form-fitting). Very warm. Not really made for casual use, more for hiking and athletic use. Rain-proof. Otherwise, order 1 size bigger...very important.
I ordered the denali women's fleece and it is too tight around the hips and I'm looking to replace it with a men's fleece that stretchs at the bottom without that tight fit at the bottom. Can you recommend any? If I wear a XXL in women, what size should I get in men?
I bought this jacket for my son a couple years ago and it still looks great and he has loved it every since he got it. It washes and dries up great too. The jacket still looks great. Never know it was a couple years old. Online now looking to buy one for my daughter who keeps borrowing his.
When I received this jacket, I was a little worried that it wouldn't handle the cold as well as I thought. However, for being a lightweight jacket, it works great in the cold and light rain! For anybody worried about spending $100 or more on a coat, just do it! Well worth the money!
looks good, fits great, versatile, and a tough little mutha, much warmer under pressure than you'd expect....
i decided to take her out for a spin late fall on a really cool/cold, blustery day...i'd say in the 30's with a bitter wind. to say it held up would be an understatement...
i own several jackets which i enjoy wearing, and sometimes wearing out, including nf pumori several times over. if you're on the move, pound for pound nothing beats penumo. if i could only have one, this would be it.
