Here's what others have to say...

Exactly what he wanted!

  • Fit: True to size

This was a birthday gift for my son. He was looking for a lightweight, unlined Northface jacket for a little extra warmth in the office during the winter months. Great for layering. This jacket was exactly what he wanted!

Excellent jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I wanted a good looking, lightweight softshell, rugged enough for outdoor activity and suitable for layering. I found what I wanted in the Apex Pneumatic. It is true to size; I bought a medium and I'm 5'10", 160 lbs. I like the elasticized cuffs, the brushed collar and drawstring hem. It will work well on a planned hiking trip in northern England next month where high temps are forecast in 50's-60's. I will not use it as primary raingear however.

Great Light Jacket!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

What I really wanted out of this jacket was was a lightweight layer that I'd feel comfortable in while working on the rock wall. The Apex Pneumatic definitely delivered.

Very light, doesn't inhibit movement, and the athletic fit insured that it didn't feel baggy. It's great for early morning or evening jogs, and it can be easily thrown under midlayers, like my Apex Bionic Jacket.

The only thing I'm worried about is, with regards to rock climbing with the jacket, I haven't been able to take it out to a crag yet to test how durable the fabric is against the rock. At a glance, it looks like it can handle some abrasion, but I don't know for sure.

Fit was true to size. I'm about 5'5" at about 155lbs, and the medium is perfect, if not, just a tiny tiny bit long, but I'm short, so I'm used to it.

- light
- flexible
- great for jogging and climbing (athletic fit and elastic cuffs make keep the fabric out of your way)
- good for temperatures of about 50 degrees and up...any lower would need a midlayer over this

- some might be looking for something a little heavier, in which case I'd recommend going to a midlayer like the Apex Bionic which is very similar in style
- haven't confirmed how it handles abrasion when rock climbing

I'm going to Spain on April and I will like to get a light jacket to travel that can support the tempera between 40 to 68 degrees, What are your recommendations. Thanks Tito

Very light, not quite what I expected.

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

So this jacket is good, but not what I was hoping for. As I clicked to and fro looking for the right jacket I had visions of a nice light jacket I "could" take skiing on the warm groomer days up at Deer Valley. This, however, is very thin. Think of it as a great jacket to wear over your argyle sweater and turtleneck base layer. It has minimal insulation (i.e. none) but does stop most of the wind. It's a great looking jacket if all you need is something to prevent your coffee from staining your under layers; but anything more you'll likely be disappointed.

so much for that rather strange claim of replacing a heavyweight fleece and a rain shell eh?

Loved the fit!

Great for our climate in Central California! My son loved the fit and he still can move around with ease since it is not a bulky jacket. He loves it!

Not exactly what I thought.

When I purchased this jacket as a gift for my brother, I thought it would be a slightly heavier/thicker material as per the product description. Looks like it will hold up well, but layering will have to happen.

I mean that the moutain jacket has the zip for inner jacket, does this one can be suitable for the zip?

is this one can be the inner jacket for...

is this one can be the inner jacket for the Mountain Light Jacket

Responded on

You could certainly wear something like this under the Mountain Light jacket, though I would personally suggest something like the patagonia R1 or R2 if you are just looking for a little extra insulation to add under the shell jacket. More comfortable and breathable in my opinion.

water resistant?

water resistant?

Hey Anthony

Polyester by nature has its own natural water resistance but honestly it wont get you too far if it starts to come down in sheets.

It looks like at least the neck is fleece lined. Is the rest of the jacket fleece lined? It doesn't say in the description.

Responded on

Hey Jason,
The fleece lining you see on the neck is called a "brushed collar lining" by The North Face- and is there for comfort on your neck/chin. The rest of the coat is not lined like that, just the collar area.
