The North Face used welded-seam technology to decrease bulk on the Men's Apex Mamba Softshell Jacket and make it water-resistant enough to hold off light rain and snow. Whether you use it for backpacking, hiking, camping, or climbing, the Apex Mamba Softshell Jacket helps you stay warm and dry in a wide range of weather conditions. Plus, The North Face used highly breathable Apex Universal fabric to keep you from overheating when the going gets steep. No longer will you have to stop every half hour to add or remove a layer of clothing.
Bottom Line: Adapt without stopping thanks to The North Face Softshell Jacket.
I bought this jacket about a month ago. It is light weight and and breathable. I bought an XL and it fits almost perfect. I am 6'3" and 235 and it fits very good. The length in the arms are maybe about half an inch to long but thats about it. The jacket keeps me warm with just a t-shirt on at around 50 degree temp. I've been in some light rains it kept my perfectly dry. Would recommend to anyone looking for a light jacket to throw on in mild temps and light rains.

this is made out of apex universal fabric"Apex Universal is the most versatile of the Apex fabrics. With enhanced stretch and a CFM between 5 and 15, it is both breathable and water resistant, making it ideal for a wide range of activities and weather conditions"and the bionic is made out of apex climateblock"Apex ClimateBlock is the most protective Apex fabric. Virtually waterproof and windproof, the fabric also maintains a comfortable level of breathability. Apex ClimateBlock is ideal for trekking, skiing, and snowshoeing in challenging, inclement weather conditions"thats right from north face's website.
Hi fellow outerwear geaks, I've been sportin' the Mamba for several wear sessions now and can report: Pros: Feels much lighter on due to the Apex Univ. fabric even tho' 22+ oz., the hand of the fabric is sensationally soft and comfy, the water repellency is A1, the fit seems to run slightly large with longer arms. I took a medium and I am 6'+ with 35" arms. The chest pocket is in the right spot. Great for fall hiking. Cons: I was surprised that the pockets are waist level for a Summit Series piece. My hipbelt interfered with access and wud have liked to have seen chest/slash pockets instead. Also wud help on xc ski trips for ventilation. But, I think the fabric at 6 PFM will be just fine since it is thin and light. Can't wait to use it on xc or snowshoe days or as a latyer under a hardshell. All in all a nice piece, sans for the hand pockets.
From wearing this jacket it fits a little more snug in the underarms, around your forearms, and upperarms. Although the fit throughout the torso fits just like any other jacket to me.
I just received the jacket the other day, and what can I say.....2 THUMBS UP. The jacket interior lining is incredibly soft, and so comfortable that I actually enjoy wearing the jacket with just a shirt on. I purchased a large, and at first, it seemed a little too big. But then I forgot that it's supposed to be worn with another long sleeve underlayer....which would account for its seemingly "extra" large size for the regular large. Other than that, it's incredible. The only thing I wish is that it came in other color combinations. Apart from that, you can't beat the price. Remember, most North Face stuff generally doesn't get marked down. So from the tag price of $199 to a sale price of $139....I'll take it anyday.
Jacket is very lightweight and comfortable. It works well in the rain and in moderate temperatures without additional layers of clothing. The sleeves are a little too long but can be easily adapted with the velco closures. Great deal for the $.
