My first NF Apex was better
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: Runs large
This jacket is much "noisier" than my previous Apex from 5 years ago (my typical replacement timetable). Also, the neck material is more silky, which means it shows oil much easier -- making the inside neckline appear dingy/dirty. The zipper on this jacket is tough to pull as well. It's warm -- though it doesn't seem to be as warm as my previous "model." Also, this jacket doesn't have a flap that covers the zipper -- creating a wind-through-the-zipper barrier -- that is fitted with three zippers for added bonus. I miss that about my old jacket. The pockets are WAY bigger though. That is about the only thing I can find positive to say about it. I'm not thrilled. If I hadn't had such a positive experience with my first NF Apex, I would have a much less favorable opinion of NF.
Very warm and roomy
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
- Fit: True to size
Jacket is warmer than it looks. Very wind resistant. This weekend it was 28 degrees with 30mph winds, and I only had on a t-shirt under it and I was warm enough just walking around. GREAT jacket...
Fits great and I am about 154, 5'10"

Apex elevation vs apex android? I know the android is rated at 0 cfm but the elevation has more insulation. Which one would be warmer overall? Would one be more suitable as an outer layer for alpine skiing? (With proper layering underneath)
the elevation will provide more insulation, but isn't windproof. so the warmth will depend on the elements. as far as a ski jacket, the android would be a better option with layers underneath because it's windproof. they both will soak through in a storm, so i would suggest looking for a hardshell if you want a ski jacket.

My perfect jacket would be highly water and wind resistant, softshell with hood, lightly insulated, prefer longer tail and either velcro at cuffs or thumb holes. Any suggestions? My preference right now would be the North Face Apex Android Hoodi. Should I size up if I'm right on the line size-wize? Thanks! Will plan on being very active in this coat.
I just returned this Elevation because I ordered a size too big. I'm 6'4" 210lb and athletic, but the XL was too bulky. I bought it to replace an APEX Paradigm I had previously and was stolen, was size large but didn't remember. Shell was not quite the same but seemed it would be more water resistant than the Paradigm. Now that I have my return I'm going to reorder and get a large. Great return process.

Is the apex elavation the same as the apex bionic just with a hood?
Interior:The apex elevation has more insulation (100g primaloft) compared to a thin fleece liner of the apex bionic.
Exterior: The apex elevation has a more breathable softshell in the apex universal with a sacrifice of a little more wind permeability (10 CFMs) compared to the apex bionic's apex climateblock softshell which is rated at 0 CFMs.
Nice jacket. Warm. Fun
Great jacket. Very warm. Cool colors. Everything fits great. Just wish it were a tad not so puffy.
Not the color I expected
- Gender: Male
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I ordered the Deep Water Blue/Deep Water Blue color thinking it would look more like the site picture (grey) but it turned out to be blue like Eddie's picture. The red seems to be a bit brighter too. I have a condor triclimate jacket but the zippers for this jacket isnt compatible with the hard shell zippers. I ordered med and fits perfectly. I'm 5'10 160 lb.

What is the weatherproofing like on this jacket?
It has a DWR coating for water resistance.
- Familiarity: I gave it as a gift, but have feedback to share
nice jacket - attractive and clean
Would this soft-shell serve double duty...
Would this soft-shell serve double duty as an insulating layer in combination with a hard-shell?
Hi Simon - I like to layer a softshell under a hardshell from time to time. The thing to consider is that the Apex has a hood, which could be annoying if you are going to wear it under a hardshell, particularly if you also had on a backpack. If your primary need is insulation, you'll be much happier with an insulating layer, but if you're just wondering if this jacket could fit under a hardshell once in a while, it can and does add to the warmth factor of any hardshell.
The Apex does have a hood, but it is removable, so that is not your primary concern if you wanted to use this as an insulating layer. What should be your concern is that it is a little bulky because of the 100g of primaloft.
If you wanted to use this as an inulating layer, you could.... but surely there are more effective lower-profile ways to do that.
Why is size large in the fig color less...
Why is size large in the fig color less than size medium? I can see different colors being different prices, but not the same color jacket differing in price according to size?
It could be they have more quantity of the size large and they are trying to unload them at a cheaper sale price. I would try the "Chat Now" and see if there is anything they can do for you on the price.
I got this TNF jacket 2 weeks back.. like it very much.
Very useful for NC winter weather. The Jacket seals very well, little bulky compared to the pics shown. But, does the purpose very well. Eventhough the backcountry.com website says the hood is Fixed, actually it is removable, i love it. One thing i am trying to fix is, when you remove the hood, the collar is not staying down , the front zip side is up and scratching my face..for each one , this may be different, but, i have to fix the collar everytime if i dont use the hood so far. When i spoke to TNF store rep, he said, it will be okay in few use.

How does the sizing on this run-small or large or true to size?
True to size....With a little exra room....
Adding to that, you should be able to fit underneath the jacket a mid-layer comfortably.
