The North Face designed the Women’s Animagi Insulated Jacket to resolve the layering conundrum you encounter on cold days of running, snowshoeing, or cross-country skiing. Ultralight recycled synthetic insulation warms your core and stretchy, breathable panels make up the sides and sleeves. A drop-tail hem covers your tush as you lean into your run, and thumb loops amp up the coziness. Wear this jacket alone on dry days or layer under a shell when storms brew.
Bottom Line: Just the right hybrid jacket for core insulation and superb breathability.
Would this jacket be warm enough to wear on 20 degree dry morning runs with woolen baselayer? Looks rather thin, but gets great reviews and looks brilliant on-line. Does it run small or large?
I can now answer my own question with a resounding Yes, it is warm enough, unbelievably so actually and so lightweight. My only gripe is that it is a little too short in the body length. I got an XS and if it were a little longer that would be perfect . The S was way too long in the arms and too loose in the body for proper warmth insulation, so this is why I got an XS. Have had no trouble with odour (as yet - only had 4 runs in it).
Yes, that's exactly what I use it for. Those kind of days with a smart wool underneath. It is that cute in person too~! It runs large. If you are in between sizes, order down. I got a Small and sort of wish I had gotten an XS.

I bought this jacket in white a little leery of the price. Now, since I bought it, I have worn it every single day. It is a great jacket to wear on a chilly hike, spring skiing, run or over gym clothes. It also looks great with a pair of jeans. I am 5'4, 135 pounds with a little bit larger twins than most girls and a size Medium fit me perfect. I am now seriously debating on cutting my cable so I can buy the other two colors:)
Would this coat be a warm enough coat for winter? I live in Iowa. I don't want something bulky. I want something comfortable enough to drive in. It's not going to be used so much for exercising outside, but I need something I'm comfortable in. Thanks
Jodie, this coat most likely won't be warm enough for you because its super thin and light weight. It especially won't keep you warm on those super cold and windy Iowa days. Maybe look more towards the Arc'teryx Easyrider Insulated Softshell Jacket for women. Best of luck!
This jacket is amazing. Feather light, but super warm. It's my winter running jacket and is great for cold days with a lightweight base layer underneath. I run very warm so I wanted something that would keep me toasty, but not bog me down. This is it!
** It runs slightly big, though. I am a Small and I wish I would have gotten an XS. So if you are between sizes, order down. **
This jacket is so light and yet keeps you very warm with just layering underneath. I play tennis year round and it became my everyday playing jacket. It is very light and does not impede movement in the least. It fits perfectly and conforms nicely to body contours. We had a long cold winter here in Ga and this jacket was great. Would love to have the blue!
Jacket is very light & it keeps you warm and comfortable. During your runs, once you body heat rises you will feel warm and comfortable. I wore this with a sports bra underneath on 26 degrees weather & it was great (hence that I also had a scarf, hat and gloves too). It runs big, I can usually fit into a size 4, 34A bra size and it fits kind of loose.
I love the looks of this jacket and it's a great weight, as others have stated, but it stinks, and I mean the stink will NOT wash out! I have used that special technical laundry detergent and it still smells. The jacket is supposed to have some kind of bamboo in it that is to keep smells at bay but I have never experienced anything like this before and I wear a LOT of North Face and other nice technical clothing. Usually, after a run, I can just hang up my outer jacket and let it dry, but this jacket just reeks after it dries. I have worn mine three times, washed it twice and will probably be sending it back. So sad, because it's a great looking jacket but just performs poorly! This is not typical North Face quality!
I agree that it stinks after a couple of runs but I haven't had trouble getting the smell out and I'm using normal laundry detergent. That's just my experience.
Very, very light and thin. As to size - I am very petite (under 5 feet). I ordered the extra small, but it is still very roomy. Wish they had an xxs! Doesn't fit as tight fitting as I had hoped it would. Still love it, though!
