Description

Top-tier protection and durability with lower-tier weight.

The North Face doesn't just add any jacket to its Summit Series, and the Men's Alpine Project Jacket is a perfect example of what it reserves for the most aggressively active adventurers. The Alpine Project provides the waterproof, exceptionally breathable coverage you need to tour, climb, and scramble in harsh weather and with a drastically lighter weight and feel than the shells you're used to.
  • Gore-Tex Active Shell utilizes a three-layer design with a lining fused to the thinned membrane which reduces the overall weight by 30% compared to other Gore-Tex laminates
  • Adjustable hood features a laminated hood to help water run off and shield your eyes from direct light—you maintain visibility during technical activity
  • PU-coated zippers help seal out moisture and work smoothly in harsh conditions
  • Chest pockets are strategically placed to offer easy access while wearing a pack

Had mine for over a year...

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I think I have last years model, but either way these are GREAT jackets. (See Pic-Colorado backcountry near Durango, CO)

It was VERY warm and the materials are extremely sturdy, something I come to expect from one of the best producers of outdoor equipment. The North Face.

They seem to deliver every time and this jacket is no exception. It has two zippers under the arms for breath ability, as I assure this thing gets toasty. Its sealed well and doesn't leak whatsoever, but this can be a problem for warmer days. This jacket should only be used for sever conditions! (Blizzards)

I was very impressed with the zippers. While other companies skimp and zippers sometimes blow out, the one's on this jacket have withstood time and pressure well.

I would grab one now while they're on sale!

The old one is great.

I have an older model. 3 layer Pro Gore-Tex. It is a Summit Series, and works fantastic. This looks like the same coat in almost every way. I have a Medium. I'm 5'10" 180 lbs. It fits perfect for summer or fall use under a light shirt. If you try to layer it with a fleece coat or even down coat, forget about it. It is really really tight with another jacket underneath. The fit is awesome though otherwise and looks good. Very durable and on sale quite affordable for what you get.

I think mine was a TNF Point Five or something like that.

Typical Top-Notch Quality from TNF

This jacket is lightweight and all business. The PU-coated zippers make it a little stiff to zip/unzip, but that's by design. The hood adjusted easily to my preference. Folds up to a compact size for packing. Washes easily. Take my advice and buy Gore-tex...it's expensive but the best on the market. I'd rather be warm and dry than soaking wet and wishing I'd spent a little more.

It is the first time I decided to buy TNF but have no idea about their sizing.
I am 186cm 85kg (73in 187lb). Which size I should buy? Will M be OK or should I try L?? I heard that TNF sizing is a little greater/

Responded on

If you want to layer, size up to a large. You can't use this on its own when it's 20 below.

Just got in mail.

Do you think this jacket is too large for me? I normally wear a Large, but it fit just right, with no layers under it, not good. So I order the XL but it is too long I think. Any ideas, I really love this jacket but I am not sure about the XL.

Responded on

Yes, it's too large. The Project jacket is meant to be minimal, light and slim fitting. With the proper layering you will be warm but only with a base layer and thinner fleece or soft inner shell. I really like the sleek fit of this jacket.

As light as it gets

This is a very nice light weight waterproof shell. Minimal features for light weight, this shell is well worth the money. The active shell really does breath better than other goretex membranes, can feel the difference in warmer climates. The pit zips work well, and the chest pockets double as vents because theyre mesh backed. The fit is slim, definitely hugs your body more than other cuts. Overall im very impressed with the jacket, plan on having it for many years to come.

Responded on

In order to save weight, no Summit Series jackets include zip in compatibility.

So I just found this jacket on clearance and picked it up because it was a deal I couldn't pass up. I'm curious though, I plan to do quite a bit of skiing in the next couple seasons, is this a jacket that could hold up as a ski jacket in cold weather? Or with something else under it? I've read about its amazing technology but the jacket is incredibly light. Any clarification would be appreciated.

Responded on

This jacket is made to serve as an outer layer (shell) which is waterproof, wind resistant and breathable. It is meant to have layers like a base, and mid layer fo colder conditions, not to serve as a n insulating layer. It,s light weight and small packing size are meant to pack to use to cover a soft shell or fleece layer when the going gets wet.

Lightweight...

I only have one day in this jacket.... I went out for a rainy warm west coast ski tour...And the biggest thing I noticed was this jacket gets way less clammy when you are pushing hard on the up track. ski touring...(Then any three layer gore-tex jacket I have used before.... This jacket breathes better than any I have tried before..

Responded on

Durability is good! I have been using this jacket for some summer ski mountaineering.
