This is more of a summer bag-- the temperature comfort rating is down to 55 F, so not ideal for cooler temperatures.

Light bag

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

They are still selling these at north face outlets. Picked up one this weekend in cinci for 29.99. Going to try out for warm weather. Super small pack size and only 1 lbs 10 ounces.

Nice bag for warm climate

I live in Costa Rica, very warm climate and thought this bag would work fine here. I wasn't wrong. This bag is thin and perfect for what I needed. As besp168390 says the red color is more like burgundy and the black is more like gray. These came with a compression sack in black/dark blue color attached to the bag so you don't lose it. Very nice.

I purchased 2 bags. Be aware that they are more burgundy than red. They come with a storage sack that acts like a compression sack. Quality build as usual. It's north face what would you expect. I got the regular and I am 6'1" plenty of room. These will make great summer bags when it cools off in the evening. I really got them for our vehicles. They will be great for winter in case of emergencies. They compress to about the size of a regular size coffee can, perfect for storing in the car. The bag is pretty thin so summer time is really the only season u may get away with late spring if u layer.

Hey John,

Not quite sure what you have in mind in a manufacturer specific dry bag, but the stuff size for this bag works out to 495 cubic inches (a little over 8 liters), so I would go with at least a 10L roll-top dry sack.

Hm. Curious, if I were to get that sea to summit comp. bag, what size would I need for this bag?

Also, what do the bx and the S1 mean in the title?

:) thanks!

Jason, I believe it means that it is a 1 season bag (S1) and it has a stuff sack but no storage sack. It is shipped in a box instead and thus the BX designation. Someone please correct me if I am mistaken.
