Great jacket

Great jacket. Commendations: Well constructed. Moderate insulation allows you to go warmwer or cooler. Funtional as wel as aesthetic design. Recommendations: Chest pocket with velcro top flap instead of side zip for better access. Heavier duty YYK plastic zips on front. Bring back the Red color!

Wicked coat

Love this coat!

Makes me feel like Jason Bourne on a secret mission when I wear it. With the many pockets available for use I can easily access my ipod to change songs easily. A bit pricey but well worth the way it makes me feel when I wear it.

Indeed it t is a little biqq buttt iit looks fine. With the price tag beinqq so high and me not havinqq a steadyy income because ii dnt work, my goal wasnt to buyy a jacket the exact size. I want iit to last so i qott a Large. Overall 5 out of 5 ratinqq. The only thing that i noticed about the jacket was that the logos on the jacket were black and not white like it is presented in the photo.

Nice jacket with a few annoying flaws

For starters I used this jacket for everyday use. It is def wind resistant but don't think you can wear it without a fleece or sweatshirt underneath it. The insulation and lack of large enough handwarmer pockets were my biggest concern. Also everytime u move the jacket slides up and this gets realllly annoying. Overall good jacket with a few flaws...but I guess it works if ur going down a mountain not too n from work on the train

Excellent Jacket could be Better

I've used the jacket twice since purchase. I found it warm (28-32 degrees) with only a turtle neck under layer. It was completely waterproof and wind proof, great flexibility for agressive ski movement. Only reasons it did'nt get a five star rating was because the front "handwarmer" pockets are so small you can only put about half the length of your fingers in them and the exterior belt should be replaced with a interior waist cord and or a snow skirt.

does this jacket come in a size small?...

does this jacket come in a size small? because usually in northface men's jacket i wear a small and when i looked on i didnt see a size small, is this because they don't have anymore? or is it just because there is no size small at all? :)

Responded on

I looked on the website, and I only saw a medium as the smallest size!

I'm a pretty heavy skier, and I'm looking for a new jacket since the one that I've had for a couple of years has gotten ripped up and is generally worse for wear.

One of the things I've been looking for is a powder skirt, and even though this jacket looks very nice, I haven't been able to tell if it has one or not. Any help would be appreciated.

Great / Durable Jacket

Sweet Jacket. Have used it about a dozen times (mostly at the resorts) this year so far and have been impressed. When it's 20deg F outside I don't even use another layer underneath, just a long sleeve shirt. I found it a little large for the standard size when compared to my other North Face Jackets. I'm 6'5"/220lbs, bought an XL but would probably fit better in a "L". Good investment. Kind of a strange belt arrangement on the bottom but it works to hold a few carabiners with gear.

Great / Durable Jacket

Awesome for Harsh Weather.... but not ideal for urban wear...

PROS: The Agency jacket is everything it's supposed to be. It is a fantastic piece of gear for harsh conditions and any severe weather. It serves its purpose beautifully.... A+ The shell is fantastic as the thin insulation adds warmth while not adding significant weight. I would trust this jacket with my life.

I do recommend LAYERING under this jacket in more harsh conditions.

CONS: There really are no 'CONS' to be honest, but I added this for those inclined to purchase this jacket strictly for everyday urban use..... it is not the best suited jacket for city use.

The Agency jacket should be considered an application specific piece of gear. And as such it is PERFECT. It is a jacket intended to protect you from the most severe of weather conditions. It is not well suited for those seeking merely a name branded item of clothing for wearing around town. The high collar, zipper configuration, waist strap, and wrist straps, while essential for its intended purpose make this jacket difficult as an 'around town' jacket. Those seeking a very warm jacket that can in itself provide full insulation on top of a thin shirt without layers, or those seeking an easy to wear/shed jacket or shell should look into the down jackets (with a single center zipper) by TheNorthFace.

Around town I find myself relying more on my Denali Wind-Pro, for ease of use around town...

What happened to North Face??

I have a North Face Gore Tex jacket that I bought on clearance in 1997 for under $150. I have skied with it for years and then switched i to my work jacket. I do site work which is wet gross and abrasive. I wore outside ina downpour the other night while cutting tiles and was dry.
What is this junky, ugly, low quality, over priced crap? Get off your pedestal North Face.
Look to other brands if you are looking for gear that is better quality at a better price

Someone said earlier that this jacket does...

Someone said earlier that this jacket does not have any pockets for the hands... is this true? It says so in the description that it does have pockets for the hands so I just want to make sure.

Also, I live in NYC, do you think this jacket alone will be enough to keep me warm in the winter or will I need to layer up underneath?

Responded on

Hey Jaydee - The Agency jacket does have hand pockets. Regarding warmth, you probably would need to layer with this jacket. Another option that does have insulation in the SteepTech series is The North Face Blackhawk Down II jacket which has 600 fill down insulation. This might be the better choice for staying warm around town.
Hope this helps.

Are these jackets sized big or sized small?...

Are these jackets sized big or sized small? Like will a medium fit like a large perhaps?

Responded on

I'm a medium in all coats i wear, Medium fits me in any brand from jsut right to loose, and i gotta say you got quite abit of room under this in medium. i'm 5'6", I can probally fit a good sweater underneath, if you do the arms would be just right and the body would still be fine, so i suppose it would fit like a large in some points of view. Hope it helps.

Very nice gear. Well worth the price of entry

Purchased the Agency for use as a ski/snowmobile jacket. USed most recently in Park City Utah, skiing in pseudo blizzard conditions at 20 F. Jacket was warm and comfortable, at times to warm in fact, which made the use of the various venting and opening options nice. Very useable and provided ample range of motion for all of my requirements.

I'm seriously considering buying one of these mainly for everyday use but for my "once a year" pilgrimage to the slopes as well. I see that this model has some sort of quilted synthetic lining. What weight fleece would you recommend layering with this for NYC winter days which average around the low 30's upper 20's? Thanks.

Responded on

I would probably go with something versatile like a 200 weight to go with this

Can you get me the agencey jacket in 5xl in black

Responded on

I don't think Backcountry stocks them that big, you can check on Live Chat. You might have to get it straight from TNF.XXl is the biggest they carry, you will have to special order it and backcountry does not do special orders. Like angus said check with TNF.

Does the hood tuck away and is hideable?...

Does the hood tuck away and is hideable? Also as far a a warm jacket everyday use how would you rate this jacket? City Person, in and out of vehicles and also in the weather often

Responded on

The hood does not tuck away but it unzips and can be put in one of the pockets. The jacket is very warm and the wind does not cut through it. I assume you mean new york city and if so it is very sufficient.

Agency rocks in cold weather...

I bought this jacket from backcountry, and as always great service from these guys! I'm from California and moved to Minneapolis a few years ago. My jackets and gear I wore in the sierras are just not warm enough for the winters up here and in Colorado( it's F---ing cold inland! but nice snow) Skiing 18 degrees or below temps requires INSULATION..more than the layering you would do while skiing up in the Sierras.
This Jacket does it! I'm a huge fan of the steep tech line, staying true to it since the early nineties, I don't wear these to look cool posing in the lift line (I earn alot of my turns). I like the centralized pockets, especially when you have a pack on. I use and abuse my gear ,the kevlar shoulders do a nice job when your hucking gear. And have been really happy with even the latest steep tech gear(Apogee..ect) of the last ten years.
The agency jacket has a nice layer of insulation while not feeling bulky, I'll wear this one with pride at my next backcountry trip in the rocky's.
