This item is on outlet because it is a previous year's model, meaning we will not get any more in :(
You could check out similar North Face jackets, such as the Thunder Down Jacket, which hopefully we have in your size!

Also, if your heart's set on this particular model, you can sometimes find it on Sierra Trading Post, eBay, and the like. That's my go-to for gear that isn't made any more.

I wear an extra small in womens coats usually, but the specs here say xs is chest 31, 32? eek I think I ordered too small. What is the deal, is the coat on the large size? Or will I be o.k.? I am 5 feet 2 inches, aprox 120 lbs.

Responded on

Hey there. I am just about your same size and would take a size small in this jacket. If your XS doesn't fit, just chat or call in and our Gearheads can set up an exchange for you.

I am looking for a light weight jacket/coat that I can wear in the fall. I don't want anything heavy like a winter coat. The price is good on this and I was just curious if this jacket is made more for the winter season? Thanks!

Responded on

I can see this jacket used for a variety of purposes from cheering on your kids during Friday night Football games in the fall or layering under a shell while downhill skiing in the winter. The great thing about down is it is versatile.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs large

I found this jacket really warm when up in Everest. Everyone else had massive down jackets and I got away with this one and a fluffy one underneath. It was light and not bulky. I came from 40C heat into -10C snow and was warm. I also slept in this one and was comfy at night. It was easy to move around in. I liked it
The fit was a little larger but that was good so I could layer.

Great Coat

Purchased for my wife and she loves it. Very warm and fits great.

What is DWR coating?

What is DWR coating?

Responded on

It stands for Durable Water Resistance. It's not waterproof, but it'll keep light drizzle from soaking the down insulation.

Little too bulky

This jacket was very nice, but my niece felt that it was too bulky for her. She is between the children's and women's sizes. We decided to return it. She wanted something more fitted.

This jacket works well on a 40 degree dry day. Any colder and you are in trouble. The jacket is not waterproof after the first hand wash/dry. The zipper is a flimsy plastic that does not hold up. I have 2 broken zippers on brand new N.F. jackets. The pockets of down seem to bunch up causing spots to be more vulnerable to the cold air. I purchased 6 North Face Jackets for the whole family. I purchased 1 North Face and 1 Karbon for myself at the same price. I am giving all the North Face jackets to good will and/or returning. I will be replacing them all with Karbon for the same price but 3 times the jacket. I will never buy this type of down jacket or another North Face product again. There is a reason why you see North Face more in malls than the slopes!

If you are looking for water proof, try a water proof fabric, not a water repellent coating. DWR does come off after washing, and is not water proof, just resistant in light rain/mist. For sure not good outdoors in all day snow unless you are somewhere really dry and sunny most of the time.

My, How You've Changed

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I purchased an Aconcagua Jacket a couple of seasons ago and wanted to replace it this year. I really liked my first purchase and expected the new jacket (with the same style name) to replicate my original. The new jacket was missing some of the features I enjoyed in the original: 1) no inner chest pocket, 2) no snaps on cuffs to interface with a shell outer layer, 3) no hang loop, 4) no fleece lining on collar or inside pockets, 5) revised cinch cord is missing an anchor, 6) less stitching on the jacket overall and different stitching on the sleeves, 7) inferior lining. I think that all of these changes merit changing the name of the style. Perhaps Aconcagua Down Jacket II. Still a nice jacket overall, but not as expected.

Responded on

Totally agree with everything you said. I purchased for my daughter a few seasons ago an decided to buy her another and one for myself as well, but found a lot a differences and the jacket seems a bit thinner. We're going to eep thm, but there's definitely a change.

I have this coat in Bittersweet and love it, but the arm length is to short and it's just a little to small. The size on the label on the coat coller says S/P and the store tag says SMALL. Is this a petite or just a regular small and should I try Medium? Just want to be sure before I order the wrong size! Do you sell PETITES and what are the measurements for a S/P? Thanks so much!!

Responded on

s/p = small/pequeno (the Spanish for small). I'd try the medium.

Mom loves it

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

My mom needed an upgrade in coats, thats about it. She was skeptical about the metallic silver when I first showed her online, but when it showed up it was more of a white color and she loves it. She looks forward to the colder weather to wear her stylish and warm coat.

Love it!

I love this jacket! It is a perfect fit, and kept me warm all winter. I'm 5'2" and I bought a small. The fit is perfect for me, and it can be adjusted at the bottom for a tigher fit if needed.

You can try one of two things. Put the jacket into your cart and go all the way to just before checking out, or use the "chat now" link to get in touch with a BC rep. Best of luck!

Great if it didn't arrive dirty

I got the jacket, tried it on, thought it looked and felt great and then noticed some crap all down the front of it -- like food or worse, regurgitated food. I cannot believe sent this to me. Obviously worn and returned, I would expect them to check all returns. Very disappointing as well as disgusting!

Hi kho3541162: I think I got the same coat again! The weimeraner color?! Crusty stuff near zipper, yuk. Color wasn't for me anyway.

Misrepresented coat

I so wanted to like this jacket. Did like the color but I also had problems w/the fit. I am 5'2", ll5 #'s. The jacket was snug around the waist w/only 1 thin top underneath. The down was very flat and basically the coat was a complete disappointment. I shop Backcountry alot and will continue to do so but really read into the product & fine print.

Great Coat!

I absolutely love this coat. I am a male, 5'11", 155 lbs, and I own the white in a large and it fits me perfectly. Very warm and stylish.

Love my jacket!

This is my 2nd Aconcaugua Down jacket from The North Face and my first time purchasing from

Buying online from was GREAT! I ordered my jacket on a Wednesday and it was here on Friday!

The only complaint I have about this jacket compared to my other one, is that it's length is shorter.

That's it!

Buy a size up!

I'm usually a medium in north face, but this jacket is just a little tight and short. I'm 5'6, 140, very athletic. The jacket it tight around the back and shoulders and a little short. Perfect arm length though! Too bad they're sold out of larges.
Even though it's snug, I make it work. It is SOO warm. I love it enough to not return it!
if you decide to buy, simply go up a size!
