We guarantee complete satisfaction and an unlimited lifetime warranty. If at any time -- now, next month, in 30 years -- you're not 100% satisfied, send your gear back for a full refund. No questions asked."
That is how backcountry.com described their warranty when I purchased I pair of ski pants five years ago.

I just went through a nightmare warranty battle with backcountry.com. I have purchased thousands of dollars of gear from here over the years and I have even recommended this site to friends. That all changed today. I purchased a pair of $500 norrona ski pants when backcountry offered lifetime warranty on all their products. The issue I had with the pants is that the inseam tore and the stitching came out resulting in a hole in the crotch. No problem I figured, this is the first time I have needed anything repaired or returned that I purchased from here, the item has a lifetime warranty and it should be a simple fix, so I gave them a call. To my dismay I discovered the warranty was false and that backcountry essentially sold me on a lie. On the phone I was told by three different people that the warranty policy had been changed and there was nothing they could do to compensate me besides giving me the contact of the manufacturer, but they were even unable to do that. The pants I had purchased were from a subsidiary of Norrona called Whiteout. I made three calls to backcountry and no one could even give me a number for the manufacturer because they didn't know who made the pants. I guess I had to find that out on my own. The person I talked to the first time said they did not know the manufacturer's contact but they would send an email to me of proof of purchase so I could show the manufacturer since I no longer had a receipt. I never got an email. I called again and still no information on who to contact however I did get an email this time but it was from a different purchase I had made and the pants were not on it. The third time I called I had already figured out who made the item and just wanted the contact information for the manufacturer. I was advised I should just try contacting gore-tex to get the problem fixed even though it was a seam that went bad and not the fabric itself. At that point I gave up talking to them and never did I receive the reciept or proof of purchase.

I understand that backcountry probably did need to get rid of the no questions lifetime garuntee because it was being abused or they were getting way more returns than they had expected. However, for them to make no offer to compensate a loyal customer on an item with "no questions lifetime warranty" who had never claimed warranty before. Refusing to even take a look at a simple problem to see if there is anything they could do to help is arrogant. What backcountry has done is unethical and I will no longer do business with them. I advise doing business with local retailers who actually care about their customer, stand true to their word and know their product inside and out, in the long run it will be worth it. If you still choose to shop here because they have a lot of good brands be forewarned of the slippery policies and lack of warranty. I have no affiliation to active junky but if you still are going to shop here get an account with them and get an additional 12% back. I'd rather see you with the cash! This is the first time I have ever written a negative review on anything but I feel that it is well deserved.

Great jacket but sleeves too short. My daughter typically wears a 12 in clothes. Bought her the 14/16 and still a little too small.

Sleeves too short

I bought a size youth XL (18) for my 13 year old daughter who is 5'5. I thought for sure it would fit with room to grow. The sleeves are abnormally short on this jacket. There were a few down feathers coming out when I got the jacket as well. Pretty color but have to return because the fit is off.

Need Know goose in or duck in?

I often have purchased here. But the down jacket‘s details always are not described in details like goose or duck fill in~

Super cute and warm

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Great Jacket! Runs true to size. We got the mint for my daughter and it is a great color. Very warm here in Idaho and highly recommend.

The jacket is just beautiful

The jacket is just beautiful and feels soft and warm, hwr I thing the one I got had the wrong number as I usually by North face stuff and the sizes are accurate, this one is way too small. I assume it was a mistake.
I would give a five for the jaquet but will need to return due to wrong number.

Sleeves

I ordered my daughter a L and worried about the sleeve comments in the reviews. XL wasn't available as an option. I did measure her, though. Still, the jacket arrived, and the sleeves were obviously too short. I am returning it.

Worth $

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small

Daughter loves the jacket because it's warm and provides a slim appearance. Most winter coats/jackets are bulky and make you look wide but this one is slimming. Must have. Do wish they would make the sleeves longer. North Face sleeves, across the board, run a tad short compared to other jacket brands. Would purchase again from Backcountry. Color/size was sold out everywhere else but Backcountry came through with flying colors - received quickly, also.

Great looking warm jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

I bought the metallic silver/passion pick for my daughter and she loves it so much. It is very light and warm so it's perfect over a hoodie. Shipping was very fast even 3 days before Christmas.

Great looking & warm

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

My daughter wanted a puffy (but not TOO puffy) down jacket and this one is perfect. It is slim fitting, and attractive but definitely still a down jacket, with all the warmth. She stood outside waiting for the bus in 20 degree weather, and said she was just as warm as sitting in the car. She wears a size 10, and I order the L. It fits perfectly. There's even a little room to grow.

Looks good and keeps warm

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Got this for my daughter who loves blue so got her the Turquoise Blue - color looks nice and cheerful. Ordered in Large but had to return it and get an XL because the sleeves were too short and the jacket quite snug. I would suggest going up a size.
She likes it and has been wearing it everyday to school - and since it's been sub zero temperatures for us this winter I'm really glad she has this jacket. She has spent countless hours playing in the snow and stayed warm and dry. I don't think it's puffy but she wishes it was even less puffy.

Picky Daughter Loves this Jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

My daughter was refusing to wear her Lands End ski jacket to school claiming it was too bulky. She's been wearing the jacket for two straight weeks and not one complaint to date. Initially, I bought a size L based on the reviews that it runs small, but it was too big. She's a size 10-12 on top. The medium works well.

Hello Joey,
The best way to check on an order status would be to give our customer service center a call, or use the live chat feature. We would be happy to check on the status and let you know where things are at!

Where can I get a white North Face Down...

Where can I get a white North Face Down vest for girls?

Responded on

I would suggest checking in every few weeks and narrowing your search for girls, north face, color: white

Careful to keep in mind, often times 'white' down jackets can be somewhat see-thru...that is, the down may show through and look rather dingy...but this isn't always the case with every white down jacket...will depend on material they are using.

Are these jackets really warm? Anyone own a Inverse Down..wondering which one would be warmer....Aconcogua vs. Inverse Down...

Responded on

I have the NF Aconcagua. I've had it for a couple of winters and it is honestly the warmest coat/jacket I have ever had. I love it and I am buying one for my little girl right now. I don't know about the Inverse, so I can't say how they compare. Hope this helps!

2nd Year with this coat

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Bought this for my daughter last year - size 10/12. Lightweight to carry around, and warm enough - but even better with a fleece underneath on those days below freezing. Might want to size up to be able to accomodate one. It *is* fitted. Sleeves are a little short, but it fits everywhere else. Size 14/16 (next size up) is far too big. Gloves cover up any exposed areas.

Nice Jacket

This jacket looks a lot better in real life than on the picture. Unfortunately it was too small for my niece. It seems to be a small fitting jacket compared to other North Face items we have. Have to return, I do like the backcountry return policy, it make me feel confident in ordering from them. Thank you!

Like the jacket a lot. The only issue with it is the sleeves are a bit short. My daughter is a tall somewhat lanky 12 year old and I am glad that I got the XL or else I am afraid the sleeves would have been more like a 3/4 sleeve.

Great coat!

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought this coat for my 11-year-old daughter who doesn't like "puffy" coats. This coat is super warm without the bulk and my daughter loves it. It's great to finally have a winter coat that she actually wants to wear. And, it looks great, too!
