The North Face Aconcagua Down Jacket - Men's - 2007 BCS

Worm, waterproof, and the right size. I bought this jacket for my roommate and he loves it. He wears it all the time and given his profession in the construction business, it is durable and gets the job done.

its a great jacket...got so many compliments ....
One negative point :
It is more fluffy as compared to other such jackets.
My advice is to buy the size which is bit smaller to your regular size, else it wont look as good.

Great Jacket, adequately warm with the 550 fill. If you are in more extreme conditions than around 20 degree lows you might want to invest in the 700 fill. I wish it had a hood but you can't be to particular for $90. Highly recommended.

Exceptional warmth for a nice light weight jacket at an excellent price point. It doesn't have a hood; however, I like to wear my Manchester United knit hat. Go UNITED! I like the jacket's simple design and minimalistic styling.

This is a 550 fill down jacket. It does not have a hood. In milder conditions, it would be enough to keep a person warm (upper 30s, to 40s, 50s F). At lower temps, be prepared to provide your own stocking cap and gloves.
My jacket seems cut pretty closely, so only a light sweater can be layered underneath it. Note, too,
the jacket is waist length, not parka length.
Finally, for stormy conditions, a wind or snow/rain shell would be needed to make the jacket practicable.
But, in cool to cold dry weather, and appropriately layered underneath, plus hat and gloves, it would provide decent protection. It appears well-made.

I bought this jacket to be my main winter jacket and I am extremely impressed. TNF definitely knows how to make a quality jacket. I was a little concerned about getting the jacket with the lowest down fill as I'm a "bigger is better" type. I tried on the Nuptse, but it was too bulky, and the fabric repeatedly got stuck in the zipper. No such issues with the Aconcagua. It's not bulky at all and let me tell you, this jacket will handle ANYTHING that a Texas winter can throw at me. It's light enough so that I don't get hot but keeps me toasty when I'm out in the cold. I'm 6' 1" 165 lbs, and the large fits me like a glove. I love this jacket!

I work in NYC near a very windy ferry terminal, and this jacket is able to withstand some of the fiercest winds. I labsolutely love this jacket, and wish I became a North Face family member sooner. I just wish there were more pockets in this jacket. There are only two outer pockets, and one inner pocket.

Nice coat but returned not very warm

This jacket is just perfect for the cooler days in the Pacific Northwest. I am 6'6", 230, and the XL fits well, with sleeves that are long enough for my arms. The pockets are located on the seam, but they feel naturally placed and are comfortably fleece-lined. Highly recommend it.

I go to school in Eastern Washington and have been desperate to find a warm jacket. I was looking for a good all around down jacket that would keep me warm in the fall and winter, without being too hard core (extremely high fill)--I found it. The 550 fill has been perfect for cold nights (in the low 30s) and even during the day when it gets about 50. In class, it is comfortable to leave on (I don't get too warm). The only way you notice it's cold outside is by the feeling of the parts of your body not protected by this beast of a jacket.

I don't have any experience yet with it in truly cold weather, but so far it's been perfect.

I wouldn't recommend it for rain, however--they nylon shell will allow the down to get drenched. Besides, there's no hood on this bad boy.

It's got a sweet look to it, too. Be prepared for countless compliments.

Highs: Perfect fill, good build, looks great, killer price

Lows: Might be too light for frigid weather, not meant for rainy days (that's what a rain jacket is for, anyway)

This jacket is completely one of the best purchases I have ever made!! I bought it on sale for $89.95 and feel that I got a steal of a deal. It is warm, looks great, lightweight, and is comfortable!! Sleeves are a little short on mens medium and large. I purchased both sizes and kept the large cause the sleeves fit better. Jacket is very light and soft. Seems fragile but it is definitely not. Very tough and durable. I can attest to thinking it was gonna snag and tear but it didn't.

Inner breast pocket is very long and deep. I think for storing gloves or bigger apparel items. I thought it would be shallow for a cell phone or gps but if you drop one into it, you're fishing for it close to the bottom of the jacket.

Zipper is fast and doesn't hang or grab. Very well designed. End of sleeves have glove clasps.

Bottom rim has elastic zip cord drawstring for keeping out drafts. Inner neck material is a comfortable soft brushed nylon.
550 fill down compresses to very small, about the size of a small football.
Overall, a quality made product. Wearable in moderate cold (50 deg) to bitter cold (5 deg). Not for fast hiking or aerobic activities. Doesn't have the urban Michelin Man look, much lower loft and smoother outer shape. Very nice, functional and looks great.
Consider the short-ish sleeve length when ordering.
Would buy again.

Great looking jacket for the price, nice new color. It is light weight, not real warm but perfect for early spring skiing or layering for colder temps. It has lots of pockets & super comfortable.

Fantastic Jacket!! A few days after buying mine I was on Mount Rainier in Washington. We were behind a rope team who was finding a new route through a new section of the Emmons glacier which left us standing around quite a bit. At about 13000' I started to get really cold. Shaking pretty bad I pulled my Aconcagua Jacket and threw it on right over everything else. Within seconds I started warming up. Wore it right to the summit.

I bought this as a gift for my husband. Not as hearty as I was expecting, and more boxy through the body than the website photo makes it look. We returned it for a heavier jacket. The quality was fine, but it just couldn't stand up to the protection of a thicker jacket.

I bought this jacket for my boyfriend who is 6'4" and he absolutely loved. It's hard to find a jacket that fits him well and it's not too wide. I got a size L, and the length of the sleeves and the body was perfect. Also the jacket is not very puffy, so it looks pretty cool. He can wear it skiing, backpacking, going to work or just around town. I like it better than the Nuptse

as far as puffy down coats go this one is the ticket. Extremely warm and so very soft. Fits true to size as far as North Face goes. The only reason i dont give it the full five stars is that its a little "Puffier" than i expected. A very good medium between micropuff and the goofy looking full puff down.

I'm 6' 200lb and the large fit me perfect. Light and packable. Easy to move in. The 550 down is a good weight, not too bulky yet truly warm. It is my everyday winter coat.

Just got this about a month ago. I've worn it outside many times in 30-40 degree weather and been extremely warm with just a t-shirt underneath. Definitely a good buy for 90 dollars. I'm 5'10 150 pounds and a medium fit well.

Bought the jacket as a gift for teenage son. He loves it. I loved the price. I would buy it again.

This makes for the best all around zip in insulation combination for your TNF shell. Much better than fleece or fiber. Stands alone beautifully too. This jacket combined with a shell will suffice for just about any (except maybe extreme) conditions that you will face.

I purchased this jacket for my boyfriend for Christmas- I usually purchase large when buying him shirts but was not sure about this jacket so I bought a large and a medium. I am actually keeping both because the medium fits him too perfect...maybe just a tiny bit small-it is ok when he just wears a regular shirt underneath but he complains that the arms seem short when he drives. The large is a little too large but good if he wears a sweatshirt or other layers. He is 5'8" about 170 lbs. It is a really nice jacket-good quality, very lightweight but soo warm!

The North Face Aconcagua Down Jacket is very light and warm.

I bought this jacket for my husband as a Christmas gift, expecting it to replace his current winter jacket. It will not. He can comfortably wear this when the weather is above 35 degrees, but no lower than that. Also, he normally takes a medium, but the medium is a little small in this jacket.

I have had this jacket for several years now..it is so warm and lightweight..I wear it for walks all winter long in temps from below zero to aroung 35...I have tried other jackets but nothing compares to the comfort and warmth of this!!!!Can't say enough good things about it!!!

I just purchased this jacket in XXL for my son who is 6'4" about 230lbs. I wish the sleeves were a bit longer. But the jacket is very warm and he decided to keep it.

I love the jacket. It's light and keeps you warm. I live in new york and it keeps me warm in the winter. The only thing is you might need a scarf because it doesn't cover your mouth so well but everything is fine.

Nice coat. My 13 year old would only wear sweatshirts because coats were too bulky but this one is light but at the same time very warm. First time he's ever said "I love this coat"

I bought this jacket because I was visiting my fiance' in New York CIty for Thanksgiving, and the Aconcagua kept me warm through that terrible wind when we visited on top of the Emire State Building. My only complaint would be the fact I should've bought a Larger size. I'm 5'8 215lbs, so I thought a XLG would be good. It fits, but I want a bigger size to move around in. I should've bought an XXL. This is a wonderful jacket either way.

I bought this jacket for my campus-walking son for the Indiana winters. He was very pleased that it was toasty warm without the 'dough-boy' look. I have since purchased two more and I love the fact they are priced right and my sons like that the jacket is light weight, warm and very comfortable. I would highly recommend this jacket, but stay away from bushes and wooded areas that might puncture the soft surface.

My son is a 6'5", 245 lbs.,college freshman. I bought him the XXL size. He really likes the jacket (all he had to say was "I really like it a lot, thanks Mom.") His sister, who is a senior at the same Big 12 college (Texas Tech) says it looks very nice on him; I trust her fashion sense more more than I do his! Besides, North Face is apparently THE brand to wear on campus!

love it, light, warm, soft, not too puffy... fits me perfect...wearing it today! ordered from backcountry and love the way the stand by their products... why not 5 stars? the nylon exterior is not rip stop, it actually feels like it could rip pretty easily...

i think its a "fall" jacket for north face as opposed to the winter version (nuptse). perfect for texas winters... i agree with the reviewer below that anything under 30 and u will need to layer...

A solidly warm jacket that feels like getting hugged by a cloud. Its water resistance holds up for a while under s drizzle, but in a downpour or sustained rain, run away.

The only recurring, annoying problem that I've had with it is that the zippers frequently get stuck on the inside of the pockets and jam.

Also, when I bought the jacket, I was a little concerned about the lightness of the exterior nylon, thinking that it might rip easily, but it's seen some wear and has yet to tear.

I would say this jacket slots in perfectly between the Redpoint and the Nuptse. It is exactly what I was looking for. Wore it this morning in 30 degree weather and was plenty warm without being overly bulky like my Nuptse.
Contrary to a previous review this jacket zips into my TNF shell perfectly - and makes for a stormproof combination.

I have had my 600-fill aconcagua for 4 Indiana winters and have not been disappointed. It has a soft lining which feels nice if you are only wearing a base layer underneath. The baffle keeps the down in the right place even after years of use. Decent wind-stopping power. Resistant, but not water proof (Duh). I Love the waist drawstring and zips up nice and snug around the neck-- very toasty.
Most recently I used this on a 6 day climb on Kilimanjaro. It compresses well and is light for its warmth. I used it as an insulating midlayer on top of an R3 and under a shell.
While higher fill counts do provide more warmth, etc, for my money and for most uses a 600-fill coat is good enough and doesnt make you look like the michelin man. Highly recommended.

I've always found North Face to have "two lines" - the "consumer" line and the"pro" line. This jacket definitely falls in the former. It's a great jacket - for the price - and for a down jacket for <$150, the price is good. It's comfortable, fits well under shells, etc. Everything a down jacket should do. Stuffing it into the inner pocket is a nice feature - but it's not easy and I rarely bother. It loses down and I agree with other reviewers that it feels like it would rip easily. It's not a jacket I would expect to handle many seasons of hard use (hence the "consumer line") but for an inexpensive insulating layer under a tougher shell, it's a great deal.

This jacket is a perfect everyday west coast winter jacket. The nicest thing. IT'S LIGHT!!! YOU'LL LOVE IT!!!

This jacket is pretty impressive. I must say, I am really happy with it. I almost opt'ed for the Red point but I'm glad I didn't. It looks stylish without being too puffy and works well for the 30's. It kept me toasty on very cold days and a little too toasty when its not cold enough. Although, when it gets down in the teens or you've got that wind chill factor you will need to add some layers. Do it!

Fits true to size, comfortable & warm, have been wearing it during this frigid winter in Chicago w/ no complaints.

Great fit and excellent quality. It's very soft feeling and very warm. It's very lightweight and doesn't have tons of bells and whistles that would weight it down and make it difficult to compress and carry. My favorite jacket ever!

I got this for my nearly 16 y/o son for Christmas. He needed a coat that would fit in his locker at school and provide good warmth and be "nasty" - I think that is teenage for excellent? Anyway - he loves it!

I am pleased with my purchase of this jacket. I'm 5'9", 170 lbs, and I got the medium, witch fits well. If you want to layer though, you might want to got with a large but this keeps me plenty warm here in Nor Cal. Puffiness is just about right and the lightweight of it is a plus.

I'm a lady and I bought this jacket for the color (bittersweet brown) and just the overall shape, it looked puffy but not too puffy. I love it but I have a pear shaped bodice so it's a little tooo snug on my hips but over all...I'd say this is a good choice for a unisex jacket. (No offense guys but this one was for the ladies) :)

This may be the best jacket / coat I've ever owned. I purchased two additional jackets for my sons ( my one son already has an older one ). It's warm without being bulky and fits perfectly. Can't say enough good things about it !

I bought the Aconcagua down jacket and am very happy with it. Where I live, winter is not that cold (usually not less than 5 degrees celsius), so the Aconcagua is perfect for that. It's very light, not bulky and keeps me warm all the time.

i really think that on the website it showed this big puffy jacket and it said that it wus very light so i bought it but when it came it did not look anything like on the web site

Husband has a large build and is 6'2 and unfortunatley the sleeves were not long enough for him. Wish there was an xxl. He loved that it was a very warm jacket and not bulky at all.

This jacket is perfect for really cold days in the southeast. Teens to 30s and this jacket is right at home. I would go for the 700 fill if any colder. This jacket is better than I could have ever hoped. One inside pocket, cloth lined collar so your neck isnt against cold nylor, and just plain warm. Watch the nylon as it is pretty thin. I expect to use this as my primary for many years to come!

Overall, this jacket was decent. It wasn't as warm as I expected it to be, it doesn't zip in to any shells, and the cuffs are made very poorly. The cuffs are made with cheap elastic that got all stretched out a week after I had it and began to let in cold air, since there is no way to tighten them up. And so...back it went, and I found something else that was better.

This jacket is amazing! To help some folks out, I'm 6'2 and this fit's like a glove. Perfectly actually, the sleeves provide just as much room as I need. It's super warm without being too much like the Neptuse. It's slim profile wise and pretty light yet very toasty. The service from Back Country was great as well the free shipping that they provide took around a week to get here. I highly recommend this coat. Stylish too!
