Agent AT Alpine Touring Ski Boot - Men's

The master bootmaker for huge alpine huckanauts and World Cup champions has officially ducked the ropes—introducing the Tecnica Agent AT Alpine Touring Boot. From a distance, the Agent AT looks remarkably similar to its alpine brethren, but get closer and you'll spot the shiny ski / walk lever running up the back, the wire bails on the silver three-buckle shell, and the lugged, rockered Vibram hiking sole. Try it on, and you'll notice it blends the close fit and responsive, triple-density overlapping shell of Tecnica's Agent alpine boots with the light weight, trim shape and upright stance of an AT boot. An adjustable rear spoiler and forefoot buckle tour position, along with the rear walk lever help the transition between free-flexing, touring comfort and locked down, shred-happy stiffness. It's early yet, but this boot could be the ultimate weapon for big backcountry assaults.

Bottom Line: Tecnica goes from bashing race gates to storming boundary gates with the Agent AT Boot.

Softy

They are comfortable AT boots, but they were way too soft and unresponsive when skiing aggressively.

The Agent BC has slightly stiffer plastic and a beefier power strap.

Broken soles (caution)

By:
June 5, 2010

These boots were fairly comfortable but after 4-5 times on the snow, the bolts holding the replaceable soles onto the boot began to fall out. After skiing without 2 bolts on the toe-piece. The sole became permanently bent. I replaced the missing bolts but it was already too late. there was a 5mm gap between the toe-piece and boot that I would watch flex while skiing (scary).

While in a trip in utah I lost another 4 bolts from the other boot. I was fed up with them and with a trip in Oregon the next day, I needed a fix. I called up Backcountry, they gave me directions from the base of LCC to their store front. Replaced the boots with Scarpa Spirit 4 AT boot and couldnt be happier. The Scarpa boot was very stiff and held up to 2500vertical/day of touring for the next 3 days.

Notes: backcountry's service is top notch but these boots will fall apart on you. Similar design to the Salomon Quest boot so be wary

I've put 170+ days on mine, touring in the Crazy Mtns of MT at stretches of up too 16 miles at a time. They have ridden in bounds, out of bounds, slack-country, back country...Red Lodge Mountain, Big Sky, Bridger Bowl, Grand Targhee, A-Basin, Jackson Hole, Alta..well you get the picture. These boots have seen it all, they are pretty packed out (what do you expect after two seasons and 170 days) But the ONLY issue I have ever had with them was late last season, while hiking out of Granite Canyon (JHMR) in late season after the traverse had melted out I blew out both rivets. It might have been while I was skiing 7-dwarfs, or D-chute. But It was after over 150 days in these boots. For screws, I would recommend hand tightening with a touch of lock-tite. (my 2 cents, I never had any issue or needed to use locktite myself) Maybe the other review just got some bad boots?

Good Stuff

By:
February 16, 2010

I've been using these boots (last year's model...same thing) almost everyday this season, and they work awesome. Just cook the liners a little adjust your canting, walk, lock, and charge. no problems staying in ski mode, simple buckle system, and great support from tecnica. the wire buckles are starting to bend out of their housings (only reason not a five star review) but they can be fixed, and if u ask tecnica real nice, theyll probly send u more or replacement buckels or something...or of course theres bc retrn policy which is kickass...i love these boots and so will u

The 2011 boots are tech compatible (ie. will work with Onyx bindings), but since this is on clearance I'd say it's the older model that isn't compatible.

The 2011 boot will be compatible with both ISO and AT setups, thanks to an interchangeable sole. It will be "TECH" compatible as well.

Butzlaff-

The current models of the Agent AT are not Dynafit compatible, but with many suggestions on the part of their freeride team and levels of reps, Tecnica is now making Dynafit compatible AT boots with FOUR buckles for the 2010/2011 winter season! Woot!

Yup, this baby will do it all, its got a pretty stiff flex and can handle the inbounds and the touring for those outtabounds freshies. Great features for those looking for a boot that can go both ways.
