Swix has that whole mix of light weight, wind- and water-resistance, and breathable panels figured out in the Women's Star Advanced Pants. What this means for you is a ridiculously comfy pair of training pants. Soft, weather-resistant fabric in the front keeps your legs warm, while knitted elastic panels in the back provide breathability and stretch. The Star Advanced Pants' knee-length zippers make it easy to pull these performance pants on and off with your running shoes or Nordic boots still on. Hey, I'm looking for gift for my dtr who bikes to work in Denver, xc, and runs. I don't see the difference between this Advanced Pant and the more expensive (c. $121) pant. Exactly what is the difference? Is one pant more suitable than the other for any of the activities? Thanks. Julia

The major difference between the Star Advanced Pant and the Powder Pant is the fabric. The Star Advanced are made of a water/wind-repellent microfiber on the front and have an elastic spandex back for breathability. In contrast, the Powder Pant has a 2-layer windproof & water-resistant membrane (with a warm brushed lining) and approximately the same back. The other major difference lies in zipper length; knee length in Star Advanced & 3/4 length (mid-thigh) on the Powder Pant. If you think your daughter actually needs windproof (& not just wind-resistant) pants, get the Powder pants. The Powder pants would also be slightly warmer due to their lining (on the front of the leg).

These run small (I think). Buy bigger. I don't know if I just wear cheap jeans that run big so you "feel better about yourself", but I am currently a size two (according to Express and American Eagle and Gap) and about 115 and 5'4 and I couldn't even get the XS up over my rear-end. Had I been able to, I am pretty sure they would be slightly high-water as well.
It all stinks, because the pants are really nice. If you wear a two, buy the small at the very least.
The knit on the butt might pick/pull though.
Back to BackCountry they go.
(Why the XS, you wonder? Because they were on sale and the only size left and I figured that, because the sizing chart said they should, they would fit. I should have known better but ordered them anyway).
