Great Watch!!

The Suunto Observer was the only fully featured watch that I found that didn't feel like I was wearing a dinner plate on my wrist. While it is a touch larger and deeper than many ordinary digital watches, it is not nearly as large as the Suunto X-lander and is small and slim compared to the similar Casio models.

The manual is well written and easy to follow with step-by-step instructions. The compass seems to be the only feature that requires regular calibration, otherwise the barometer, altimeter and thermometer seem to stay accurate once calibrated. The watch itself seems durable enough for any outdoor activity, yet is stylish enough to be worn anytime. I love it!

Fantastic investment

This is my first altimeter watch; I always thought they were more of a novelty than a necessity. But the altimeter and compass functions were vital on a recent backcountry trip to the Coalpit. It's light, strong, stylish (much smaller than other Suunto models) and packed with so many features I haven't had a chance to learn about yet.

SUUNTO OBSERVER

I like the look and feel of this watch. the buttons give a very positive response and the compass works great. One of the frustrating drawbacks is the altimeter that seems to vary between 60 and 600 feet when I'm at a constant 160feet altitude and temp. The elastomer band is comfortable. The only drawback is the buckle. The pin protrudes slightly yanking hairs out by the roots if your not careful while showering. Other than that...It's great! I've used the compass function to determine the back azimuth of a mortar and it functioned flawlessly.

Nice watch!!

This is the first Suunto watch that I have bought, therefore I cannot compare it to other Suuntos. Still this is the only one that I have found both comfortable and elegant. I have tried other Suuntos on and they seem to be a little too bulky for my taste. This one is not bulky, and also looks great whether you are out in the woods or out on the town.

Altitude2

A drop of .05 Inches of Mercury in Barometric Pressure will increase the Altimeter 50 feet. An increase of .05 Inches of Mercury in Barometric Pressure will decrease an Altimeter 50 feet. This is true of all Altimeters, regardless of brand.

My husband, CW4 Miller, who is with 2-101 in Iraq as an apache pilot asked for this watch and I sent it to him. He says it is the coolest watch he has ever had.
