It's a real SUP. I purchased this board from backcountry.com about 2 months ago and I love it. I've ridden a few SUP's. One similar racing style SUP which was comparable, but did not feel as fast. If you want to surf, don't buy this board (at least the 14'). If you want to cruise/race/get fit, this is a really nice board.
